Re: Bitcoin in the PP?

I have come to categorize Bitcoin as just another single stock I shoulda coulda bought. Just like an Amazon, Apple, Tesla stock.

I believe I saw someone else mention this here. If Bitcoin does become something bigger, then owning the stock market will have you invested enough in it.

Re: Quality Time Left

Would you buy a 3.25% 30 year mortgage? Another way to think about it, If you had a paid for house would you take out a mortgage on it? If so what would you use cash to buy? Maybe I bonds but I wouldn't want to buy stocks or gold. Leave it in cash if you need for emergency fund but you would not be...

] Do you prefer cash holdings in bank deposits or T-bills? Whatever is paying more. Favorite thing is I bonds right now. It was EE bonds when all rates were so low. EE bonds not so appealing now but they saved me from buying LTT at low rates. CDs could be appealing if rates go higher but they are n...

Cash is my favorite asset as well. I guess it is the at least you know your nominal return factor of it. Just make sure you have at least 25% stocks according to Ben Graham https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Graham_75-25_rule And 20% gold according to belangp https://gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/viewt...

Re: Safe deposit boxes: Revisited

I hated having to worry about having gold on hand or in a SDB. It was a relief to sell it and just use ETF.

It was more stressful to worry about what I would mess up with the gold than what the ETF would mess up. At least the ETF has the power of the masses on it's side.

Uganda says exploration results show it has 31 million tonnes of gold ore https://www.mining.com/web/uganda-says-exploration-results-show-it-has-31-million-tonnes-of-gold-ore/ Story sounds suspicious. And does it overcome the fact that with a barbell approach, you have the added flexibility of using your emergency fund as part of the cash portion of the portfolio, as well as the possibility of adding I Bonds to juice portfolio returns during times like these? Re: The 20 basis point per year rule-of-thumb

Initially I was wondering if this rule would save you from buying into long term treasuries when you shouldn't be but looking back at historical charts this doesn't look to be the case. Some of the best times to have 30 year treasuries actually appear to be when the yield curve is flat with elevated...

Re: The GOLD scream room

I don't know about ETFs causing trouble. I still think it is more that the population doesn't even think about owning gold. What was it like to buy gold in the 70s? Were there gold dealers everywhere or was it just a niche thing? What are people buying now to hedge inflation? I guess what I have see...

Re: The 20 basis point per year rule-of-thumb

Is this something that needs to be applied to the "Permanent Portfolio"? It would have saved a lot of grief this year over long term treasuries. I found this other post on bogleheads https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46704 The post mentioned Larry' Swedroe's 2006 book: The O...

Re: Rebalancing advice needed

I think taxes are one of those things that are guaranteed. I am not in the withdrawal phase but in my head, I expected to just sell from the asset that is up at the moment. That may then prevent a need to rebalance and also forces you to sell high. It would also spread out your taxes to each year in...

Re: Rebalancing advice needed

Historically, equal parts stock, long treasury and gold has outperformed the permanent portfolio but with deeper drawdowns. Since we have already had quite the drawdown, it sure seems like the correct answer would be to stay where you are at. https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/backtest-asset-class-...
