Re: How did YOU vote???!!

It appears to me political polling is no longer that useful as it is pretty inaccurate. I'm not a conspiracy guy, but I like j's comment on the red wave was made up. The news cycle was getting stale, let's throw some excitement into the story. If your job is to sell news based advertising a blow out...

Re: US Legislative Majority after November 8

I like divided government. Reigns in the crazies on both sides. Effectively adding more reams of paper to existing state and federal code and regulations isn't necessarily a good thing.

Re: How did YOU vote???!!

Not a great night for the R party.

Thoughts on my thoughts?

- If you want to win a competitive Republican primary in a deep red state, go for the Trump endorsement

- If you want to win a competitive general election, having his endorsement is close to political suicide

Re: US Legislative Majority after November 8

You left out the most probable outcome as a choice of the Rs don't sweep it.

House = R

Senate remains D

Hence a non-vote from me

Re: How did YOU vote???!!

My state is highly red. Multiple local offices had a single candidate that was from the R party...not the same I know, but seemed very communist like.

I wish there was more competition. I think there should always be at least two candidates, even if they are from the same party.

A very interesting proposal in your second to the last paragraph. I find it amazing how often I get exposed to an idea that completely never occurred to me. A definite benefit of being exposed and open to many ideas.

Wow, when did gold creep up into the 1700s
On the downside...bonds, stocks and gold are all moving in lock step. As of late we are getting zilch diversification.

Had to bring in some shade on the little ray of light I introduced. :-)

So your return will be whatever your broker states it will be for the ask price but there may be tax implications in terms of interest vs. cap gains.

See last line of previous post. :-)

Re: Treasury Bonds (Auction vs Secondary - basically a wash?)

Depends. Municipal, USG or commercial? Your post slightly points to USG bonds. Assuming that is a yes (or no), there may be some tax implications. Let's assume you bought a bond during ZIRP days which was yielding .25%. It is most definitely selling at a discount to par now. https://msrb.org/sites/d...

Re: White House Deletes Tweet After Context Note

The whole Twitter thing is bizarre. I started using it for info on the UKR/RUS war. It just does not seem as important as people make it out to be though. I’m not understanding the uproar. I will however say that in a short time the advertisements have gone WAY down in quality. Rather than getting a...

I think they saw the writing on the wall legally and are probably deciding they don’t need the hassle of the potential law suits.

You don’t get to be a shareholder and defacto board member without taking on liability for your decisions/actions.

Regardless, it is a good trend.

And of course the other Texas institution of tastiness…Whataburger! True story, the Mrs. and I had joked for 4-5 years about flying to a city that had a Whataburger. Last fall about this time I noticed some round trip tickets for $99 and bought them. Short flight, got there for breakfast and also at...

I miss HEB, that's a good chain of stores. They really are very good at what they do. During the various crises lately (mainly I'm thinking of the snowstorm), they were able to quickly redirect a lot of their capacity to the basics and never ran short. Here are some articles: https://www.nytimes.co...

Interesting fund, good fee for what it's offering.

Last time I checked the volume was pretty minimal...so it might not survive. (It has been a while since I checked volume, so perhaps it gaining traction IDK.)

Re: The Fourth Branch of Government

But you said that Trump’s Deep State team (with nobody on it, apparently) was now 0-2. Based on your link, that would refer to the Durham investigation. Were you referring to something else? Because I’m not sure Durham or Barr were on Trump’s team at all. It’s possible that they were more concerned...

Re: Non-ESG ETFs

The deeper issue is that BlackRock uses their voting rights (as extremely large holders of any company's stock) to actively pressure the board of every major company to adopt ESG values. That's not about choice. It's about direct political coercion. Tyler's got it. I was blissfully unaware that Van...

From what I've read (not deeply), Bernstein has it correct. They are mainly a Wall Street sales tool that enables charging more for something that is barely different from a vanilla index fund.

I don't think these make much sense for an individual investor unless they are doing so as a speculative venture. Small rant, feel free to ignore. On ESG funds...I don't invest in them, but if someone wants to that's what free markets are all about. Being anti-ESG is not conservative or libertarian. It's you telling someone else how they should invest their money which is anti-conservative and libertarian. No o...

Re: Next up on the planned crisis list

Today from one of yesterday's shows I heard Karl Rove (must have been the Fox News Show) say that the Democrats in 2024 would not be having an 82 year old candidate while the Republicans would not be having a 78 year old candidate. One could only hope. However, never underestimate either party's ab...
