Re: $20 gold Liberty coin Heads Up!
It would be interesting to know how they test these coins for purity. I believe there are several methods and they're not accurate all the time.

Re: Illinois Will Be The Poster Case For State Bankruptcy
What's weird is that munis aren't unlike European state bonds. Just like an individual European country, an American state can't print themselves more money to get out of a high debt situation.

Re: The Dawning of a Golden Decade
Memorable quote on page 7: Truth hurts. Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with the seat missing, but it hurts. Inspector Frank Drebin It's not a bone-dry paper, they did their best to keep it readable with a joke in the sideline here and there. This is my first crisis with a lot (for me) of ...

Re: Warren Buffet goes nuts and exposes the fraud that is the USA
This is no secret and everybody who buys these treasuries knows this. The US isn't unique in this regard. There are multiple countries for whom the debt-to-GDP ratio is overboard. Here in Europe we have France and Italy. Japan also has gone nuts. It's the reason, as I understand it, why they all lov...

Re: Simple 4 ETF PP
I run it with three ETFs, personally. I have replaced the t-bills part with real cash, meaning a savings account. I don't see anything wrong with that, and I'm surprised that you'd say "only 4 ETFs".
Isn't that the beauty of the PP, its simplicity?

Re: What Does Life Look Like For You Now?
I live in one of the European countries that doesn't have a strict quarantine, but has instated a mild lockdown. So weirdly enough, my life hasn't been all that different. I'm a freelancer who was already working out of my own office for half of the week. The other half of the week, I'd occupy a des...

I'm really curious what kind of investor is going there. Does it reflect the "normal" distribution of the market?

Re: Time to replace Macbook Pro?
If Mac, I'd steer clear of the 13" MacBook Pro until updated with a better Keyboard (rumors say this year soonish). (no direct experience, but LOTS of online complaints about the keyboard. I do have experience with those keyboards, and I can tell you: it's going to annoy you. If you are going ...

Not worth posting, really. It's just that if asked, you give the advice to include a little gold to a beginner's portfolio, you're bound to get down votes on Reddit.

Yeah with all the volatility in stocks, the PP is definitely getting more attention. I still get downvoted on Reddit though ;-) Thanks for posting.

Re: Bitcoin in the PP?
I am honestly curious what the thought process of the risk/reward ratio is of putting 0.5%-1.0% bitcoin in one's portfolio? Well, I for one think it's a very good idea. The PP provides for this, in some sense. Besides the Permanent Portfolio, it's advised to keep a VP = Variable Portfolio, if you w...

My first bear market and I'm sleeping tight
Hi folks, When I started freelancing about five years ago, I knew I had to step up saving and investing. First for the inevitable drought in work, and second because I'd no longer have a employer-provided pension. A lot of blogs were touting Buy & Hold 100% stocks portfolios. But from what I rea...

Re: Getting Into Linux
How many forums users here are regular Linux users? Not on the desktop, but on the server, yes. My biggest gripe so far is the lack of a turnkey backup solution like Time Machine in MacOS. Also, there is no Microsoft Visual Studio Code, so I've elected to use Atom as my IDE. It's not as good, thoug...

Fun times
My VP is about 4% of my PP, and 2% is in Bitcoin. I don't worry about it, really. It's just there in case Bitcoin turns out to be a huge winner in the future.

Noob here. Isn't the risk/return hard to evaluate if you don't know the chance of counterparty risk?

Re: Online Security
This forum is extremely revealing in the financial sense. I can tell you from experience that it can rub people the wrong way when they know you're well off. I have a colleague who asked what I earned, and I told him. Even though it was less than him , he was jealous for weeks. Because, so he reason...
