I apologize for the pat response, as I was on my phone.
But yes, I believe that artificial intelligence will be the next "big thing" that supersedes the other megatrends. There just isn't anything more powerful than a true superintelligence as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Do You Carry a Multitool?
I've finally ditched the Victorinox SwissChamp and picked up a Leatherman Free P2. Such an excellent tool. Each implement can be accessed and put away with only one hand. Super useful feature for when you're steadying whatever you're working on with one hand or if you're on a ladder. The pliers are...

Rickards said that in 2018 the global financial system was going to collapse, and that gold and alternatives were our only saviours.

Re: This is the best time in 45 years to invest in the Permanent Portfolio
As much as I agree with the OP, the start date sensitivity of the PP is so low that I don't think it's ever a bad time to invest in it.

New Gold Case
Saw this little container thingy at the hardware store the other day… thought to myself it would make a cool little gold bullion storage case. So I bought it!

Getting Rid Of Stuff -- Mostly Books About Investing
Hey all. I'm going to be moving (again) real soon. The new place actually has more storage than the old place, but the issue I'm running into is that the distance in which I'm moving makes the transportation of many of my old possessions uneconomical. It's actually cheaper just to buy the same stuff...

Lower Spreads Versus Greater Divisibility: Which Do You Go For?
What's your guys' take on this one. What kind of gold coins do the forum members buy here? 1 ounce coins? These have low spreads that allow you to have more gold per dollar. On the other hand, you give up divisibility in the case where you actually needed to use them for something. The reverse is ob...

Re: I-bonds from tax refund
Wow, what rigmarole. Sounds like it worked out though, in the end. It's really striking how different the tax/reporting/financial infrastructure is in the U.S. versus Canada. Our government once had a Savings Bond program that was similar to the I-bond program in the U.S. (as far as I can tell anyw...

Re: I-bonds from tax refund
Well, I finally got my tax refund the other day, after sending in $5000+ extra, in order to get my $5000 in I-bonds. Instead I got a paper check for the whole amount. Now, the IRS did adjust my refund due to a computation error, increasing it by about $100. I don't think that was the problem, thoug...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?
2. If in the future another form of money becomes No 2 in popularity, then it may make sense to replace Gold with that. Yes, it's the most interesting question surrounding the PP right now as far as I'm concerned: does gold still hold its place as the "people's" money? Hard to say. Crypto...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?
I think you may be forgetting inflation. Short-term rates still haven't nearly caught up with inflation, so in real purchasing power, cash is getting walloped just like the other assets -- just not quite as badly. I may be completely out to lunch on this, but it's gotten to the point where I almost...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?
Monthly data also helps to smooth out a lot of the drawdowns one might see in real time. Either way, I am less psychologically burdened by a given drop in portfolio value when I'm 4x25 than when I'm, say, 60/40. The "firewalls" between the asset classes do their thing. I also recall Craig ...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?
I continue to be impressed with the PP year after year. Even with a rapidly rising interest rate environment, which has long been considered a possible source of PP kryptonite, a Canadian PP is still down by less than 10% this year.
The PP isn’t magic, but I trust the strategy more than ever.
