Re: Global Permanet Portfolio
Hi Lord, Ishares has a global AA+ bond etf, see also Dutchtraffics Global PP thread. AUM are tiny though. Instead of holding cash and LT's seperately you could also lump them together by using only intermediate treasuries. That's probably easier to implement. Historically intermediate treasuries hav...

Re: Momentum Butterfly portfolio
I am really uncomfortable holding gold and long bonds in another currency. As far as I know gold is gold, doesn't matter what currency the etf uses. The returns are the same when converted to your own currency. Holding IAU doesn't expose you to any currency risk. I agree with the others, stick with...

Re: Best ETF for Europeans
If I were a European, I'd buy index funds for Northern European and UK country stock markets, and entirely skip the Sick Men of Europe. Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece. Maybe hold those together with the rest of Emerging Europe, in a small amount. I'm curious why would you want to do that? I underst...

Re: Best ETF for Europeans
For the PP it's usually advised to use domestic stocks, in your case that probably means Eurozone stocks. In theory want the stock part of your portfolio to be tied to the same economy as the bond/cash part. By holding the MSCI World index your stock part might behave differently from the Eurozone s...

Re: Depressed
The PP's low correlations tend to play out rather well over longer time periods. On any given day anything can and will happen. Nothing to worry about!

Re: MachineGhost's Research Depot
For those thinking about switching to the Golden Butterfly (gotta love that name), do you expect SCV to continue outperforming TSM like it did over the last 40 years? If so, why would that happen? And is your belief in the SCV-premium strong enough to endure the possibility of a 20-30 year underperf...

Re: MachineGhost's Research Depot
Before there was all this crazy (but interesting!) talk about tilting/factors/butterflies/riskparity there were a couple of threads were a small VP consisting of Vanguard Total World Stock was suggested. Something like 90% PP and 10% VP with VT might be just what you're looking for. It might take ...

I guess you missed the other thread. The returns are from here: http://www.researchaffiliates.com/assetallocation/Pages/Core-Overview.aspx Click on the Library icon then you can read about the methodology used for each asset class. Of course I believe it, but keep in mind the expected real CAGR is...

That's a truly global portfolio! I would be a little bot worried about the currency risk. With 80% stocks I guess the Boglehead forum would be a better fit for you.

Re: Are you buying, holding, or selling the PP?
70/30 in retirement accounts, 25/20/20/40 stocks/bond/gold/cash in taxable (PP + cash) for a blended 52.5/40/7.5 stock/bonds/gold allocation. This seems to work better on all levels for me. I still maintain 15/35 bands but also manage bond duration to 5.6 years. This is what I've been doing for the...

Re: Are you buying, holding, or selling the PP?
it better be strong here , this is the pp forum . if not here where else ? Anywhere but here I'd say, it's your private forum. @Dutchtraffic. Wether bonds and stocks are overvalued is pure speculation. And if they are that would mean that most investment strategies are in the same boat and that the...

Re: Are you buying, holding, or selling the PP?
I'm holding a eurozone PP in taxable and a traditional stock/bond portfolio in my retirement accounts. I've stopped trying to bring those two portfolios together as I have very little choice in the retirement accounts. No idea why there's so much negativity on this board. The PP is doing what it's s...

Re: Getting Started with Bonds
Well, we're in the middle of a bull market for stocks right now so the PP and it's followers are having a hard time. It's really quite silly to hear about conservative income strategy growth models all the time as if they are in any way comparable. When you invest in the PP you let go of any compari...

Re: Getting Started with Bonds
And I want to add to that that an online community like this is an awesome way to learn more about investing, but at the same time it makes it harder to stay the course. Everyone is writing about different strategies all the time, some posters are only here to criticize the PP. So reading this forum...

I would prefer the cheaper one. It's better diversified and costs are a better predictor of future performance than past performance.

Re: How much fees are too much?
Are these active funds or passive ones? If not, what index do they track? What is the amount of companies they have? In general you should pick the cheapest especially when the difference in expenses is so large. Mid and small behave very simililarly so I wouldn't worry about that. What could be an ...

Re: PP is once again positive YTD
Exactly. The "working-age male" is basically an obsolete concept, a relic from the days when physical skills and a strong body were key parts of your employability. Those sorts of jobs are rapidly disappearing from advanced countries, either because they're being automated by machines, or...

Re: PP is once again positive YTD
Germany seemed pretty solid until Merkel adopted the open borders policy... Hopelessly off topic but why would a couple of million refugees break the German economy? Most refugees are young or of working age and Germany's population is aging and shrinking, so you could just as easily argue that Ger...

Re: PP is once again positive YTD
Well, that's a different topic :). They'll get converted to the new (or old) currencies. It's hard to predict what will happen, interest rates between the former euro-countries could diverge greatly in such a crisis. That risk seems pretty remote though. The Greek crisis clearly showed how far poli...
