Re: Things about the PP that do not make sense to me
I am in the same category 4x25 + EF What is your allocation after accounting for the EF? I try to make sure that the EF total stays stable so I am forced into allocating new capital to the PP. So easy for me to place new investable money in cash and end up too cash heavy. I sort of do the same. I k...

Re: Things about the PP that do not make sense to me
The problem of using the cash part of the PP as an emergency fund is that it's too small when you start out and it can easily feel too big when you have a sizeable portfolio. It's important to remember that when your portfolio starts to get bigger that you're holding three pretty volatile assets at ...

Re: 100% stocks
It will be 100% Mid Cap Swedish stocks. I like the Mid Cap Swedish Stocks as they have historically been giving a much greater return compared to the Large Cap index. I also thought about diversifying internationally but I don't like the extra currency risk. Maybe I should get myself 50/50 Large Ca...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio
One thing that speaks in favor of SCB is that there will be less opportunities for behavorial mistakes. The problem with SCV investing is that the premium is a moving target. Even if it still exists, you still have to catch it. Is Vanguards SCV-fund 'valuey' enough to capture the premium? Or do you ...

Re: Planning to set up a portfolio
Gold offers protection to anyone on this planet, you can talk any kind of financial wizardry, an ounce of gold is an ounce of gold and has exactly the same value for anyone in the world. It does, in a way. But when you add gold to non-US assets it's perfectly possible that your bonds go down at the...

Re: Planning to set up a portfolio
Gold is gold, but it doesn't offer the same protection when you combine it with non-US assets. Gold reacts primarily to the US-dollar.
So a non-US PP could still be a good and diversified portfolio, it won't offer the 'bulletproof protection'.

Re: Global Permanet Portfolio
No one really knows if it will be better or not. It will be a lot simpler. Given your tendency to tinker I would choose one global stock fund or etf and be done with it. Even if a 'real' PP isn't possible, a combination of MSCI World, Swedish bonds and some gold makes a fine portfolio. Only buy stuf...

Re: Global Permanet Portfolio
Hi Lord, Ishares has a global AA+ bond etf, see also Dutchtraffics Global PP thread. AUM are tiny though. Instead of holding cash and LT's seperately you could also lump them together by using only intermediate treasuries. That's probably easier to implement. Historically intermediate treasuries hav...

Re: Momentum Butterfly portfolio
I am really uncomfortable holding gold and long bonds in another currency. As far as I know gold is gold, doesn't matter what currency the etf uses. The returns are the same when converted to your own currency. Holding IAU doesn't expose you to any currency risk. I agree with the others, stick with...

Re: Best ETF for Europeans
If I were a European, I'd buy index funds for Northern European and UK country stock markets, and entirely skip the Sick Men of Europe. Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece. Maybe hold those together with the rest of Emerging Europe, in a small amount. I'm curious why would you want to do that? I underst...

Re: Best ETF for Europeans
For the PP it's usually advised to use domestic stocks, in your case that probably means Eurozone stocks. In theory want the stock part of your portfolio to be tied to the same economy as the bond/cash part. By holding the MSCI World index your stock part might behave differently from the Eurozone s...

The PP's low correlations tend to play out rather well over longer time periods. On any given day anything can and will happen. Nothing to worry about!

Re: MachineGhost's Research Depot
For those thinking about switching to the Golden Butterfly (gotta love that name), do you expect SCV to continue outperforming TSM like it did over the last 40 years? If so, why would that happen? And is your belief in the SCV-premium strong enough to endure the possibility of a 20-30 year underperf...

Before there was all this crazy (but interesting!) talk about tilting/factors/butterflies/riskparity there were a couple of threads were a small VP consisting of Vanguard Total World Stock was suggested. Something like 90% PP and 10% VP with VT might be just what you're looking for. It might take ...

I guess you missed the other thread. The returns are from here: http://www.researchaffiliates.com/assetallocation/Pages/Core-Overview.aspx Click on the Library icon then you can read about the methodology used for each asset class. Of course I believe it, but keep in mind the expected real CAGR is...

That's a truly global portfolio! I would be a little bot worried about the currency risk. With 80% stocks I guess the Boglehead forum would be a better fit for you.

Re: Are you buying, holding, or selling the PP?
70/30 in retirement accounts, 25/20/20/40 stocks/bond/gold/cash in taxable (PP + cash) for a blended 52.5/40/7.5 stock/bonds/gold allocation. This seems to work better on all levels for me. I still maintain 15/35 bands but also manage bond duration to 5.6 years. This is what I've been doing for the...

it better be strong here , this is the pp forum . if not here where else ? Anywhere but here I'd say, it's your private forum. @Dutchtraffic. Wether bonds and stocks are overvalued is pure speculation. And if they are that would mean that most investment strategies are in the same boat and that the...

Re: Are you buying, holding, or selling the PP?
I'm holding a eurozone PP in taxable and a traditional stock/bond portfolio in my retirement accounts. I've stopped trying to bring those two portfolios together as I have very little choice in the retirement accounts. No idea why there's so much negativity on this board. The PP is doing what it's s...
