Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
Tn, How is it stolen and to whom do the benefits and costs go from inflation? ANSWER: Inflation steals from savers .....it discourages saving as the dollar becomes worth less over time....therefore encouraging spending, investing & debt....therefore "benefiting" the economy and punish...

Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
If you think coming up with an alternative form of money will bring liberty you are seriously deluded and need to read more history...power will come to it and take it over. Those guys are normally the ones with the biggest rocks, spears, guns etc. Is gold not an alternative form of money to the US...

Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
All forms of money have value solely because people believe it does, including gold. One of the best, most innovative podcasts I've very listened to is Freakonomics "Why Gold?" Highly recommended. no doubt....value only lives in our (people's) collective mind. Competing currencies to the ...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Can you elaborate more on the comment about gold ETFs having insufficient reserves? I've been wondering for quite a while about the wisdom of trusting them, but they claim to be fully backed up by physical gold. Perhaps rehypothecation?.....I heard on podcast a while back where this issue was more ...

Re: The GOLD scream room
As long as Central banks print money to cover bad debt and buy gold reserves ....gold will still have its place imo. I've always found that interesting about non-gold believers…how they gloss over the fact that banks print funny money (for the people) and buy gold for their reserves!? If central ban...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
I've always found it a little weird that Bitcoin could both serve as cash and as a wildly speculative investment. I just figured that it was going to have to stabilize before it could mature into a legit cash vehicle. Sad to have missed the initial joyride though! Yes I agree. Exactly! Bitcoin pric...

One example: a Beijing student was protesting sexual harassment and Censors banned the shorthand characters used for PKU, but some internet users were able to share the letter by covert methods, including archiving the story with unalterable blockchain technology and spreading the word with flipped...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
It has nothing in common with either gold or cash other than that some people believe it has value, which can be said of virtually anything else as well. YES!.....exactly!....nothing has value as a universal law....(the universes doesn't give a **** about any of this or your personal rights to life...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
I won’t be buying it myself, but I am still very interested in blockchain. I am curious to see how bitcoin and other crypto currencies fare in the coming decade. As for small debts, my friends and I use Apple Pay Cash. Love it. What about blockchain intrigues you?....(other than the function it pal...

VP puzzle, you mean. yes....I certainly don't recommend it stand along side Bonds, Gold, Stocks and Cash equally. I like the idea of what it was originally intended for, just a frictionless medium of exchange. As an investment or store of value...most vendors and individuals simply don't accept it. It's like it was made primarily for ransomware. I was not soley intended as a frictionless MOE.....it was designe...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
Another question....would bitcoin be considered a good long term SOV since inception if we only looked at its yearly lows instead of highs?
Yearly Lows:
2012 -$4
2013 - $75
2014 - $200
2015 - $185
2016 - $365
2017 - $780
2018 - $3200
2019 - TBD - Currently $3400

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
In the 12 months to bitcoin's peak above $20,000 in December 2017, the cryptocurrency increased in value 25 times over. Over that same stretch, gold rallied 4 percent. More than a year since bitcoin's peak, it's down 82 percent, while gold is up 2.5 percent. Does this mean that during this timefram...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
Bitcoin isn't any kind of money. It is an absurd speculative instrument relying on the "greater fool" theory. But by all means keep HODLing, and to quote a great philosopher: "[Y]ou'll go home in a barrel." I guess it doesn’t really matter what anyone “calls” it or refuses to ca...

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
As soon as Bitcoin has 1/10th the track record of gold, I'll consider it. Until then, it's basically like a Beanie Baby... only you can't even see it. Define "track record"?....if thousands of years agreed value / worth is what your implying, well you've admitted you'll never consider it....

Re: Looks like HB was correct about offshore assets
This highlights my biggest concern with Bitcoin's invention.....for all the freedom it provides people, it paved the framework / gave light for a government issued digital currency. (not a cryptocurrency) The ultimate end goal of government would be to monitor every dime spent and tax appropriately....

Re: Harry on Bitcoin
Sorry but gold is more closely related to your pet rock anology than bitcoin....Gold is nothing more than a scarce pet rock. Yet is deserves its place in the PP. Bitcoin is scarce, can be physical or digital, the same coin can theoretically exist in 10 different physical locations (ex. 10 copies of ...
