Re: I think I'll rebalance today

I did not,Soph. It seems silly to do so since vp+pp is already at 50% stocks, which is what I want. I'll probably unload a few K for the psychological benefit. I'll put it into treasury notes if Yellen gives us tasty yields. If not, intermediate muni bond fund in vp gets it. Or IBonds, which I've sk...

Re: Bitcoin Costs More than Gold?

"Inadequate" is when, like me, you don't even know what Bitcoin is. It's a kind of made-up digital currency, and while the dollar and other non-metal-backed paper currencies are also kind of abstract, it's easier to trust them when you can go down the street and hand some to the guy behind the coun...

Re: Bitcoin Costs More than Gold?

I recall that some years ago, a guy with a Greek name pondered whether to buy an ounce of gold or a share of Google. Also not, eh...commensurate. But, I'm pretty sure both were worth close to $800 at the time of the article. It was fun to follow, even though I only got to do it in retrospect. No ide...

Bogle says Trump's Growth Target 'Not Possible '

For all the Bogleheads, as they probably can't post this in their own forum. Maybe as a locked item. Investment guru Jack Bogle has told the BBC that President Donald Trump's plan to grow the U.S. economy by 4 percent a year is probably "not even possible for anybody http://www.newsmax.com/Finance/S...

Re: Why is Kellyanne Conway Such a Lightning Rod for Progressive Vitriol?

I don't think she deserves the vitriol, but she is a bit nutty.
Ann Coulter deserves the vitriol, and maybe Ann has been out of the limelight for too long, so they moved on to the next skinny, kind of blonde Republican woman.

@LC475 terraformers: yes, that's a great example of why it's a difficult question. But who created that terraformer? Africans: I recognize that Africa is lagging the world in science. They're not putting a rocket into space anytime soon. But while I'm not a complete bleeding heart, I would argue tha...

keep in mind as little as a 1% dividend distribution can wipe out any tax advantage over the long term if held in a brokerage account so you can get the tax advantaged rates ... one other big negative to dividends is you are taxed on the entire dividend Old thread, but you've lured me in if only to...

I know a veterinary student who had planned on (legally) getting out of his loans. Only now he's a consultant making buckets of money. I'm not sure how that works or what happens next. I guess he has to pay.

That would have been my confirmation bias answer if I were not in the market and still only in gold and miners. Now that I am diversified in the PP, I don't care. Bring it on. ...

Yeah, poor bonds. O0 I'm really feeling that "angst" -- high class problem, I know -- regarding whether to sell some S&P or just make the pp larger. All the data, the same data that favors going all in with lump sum investing vs dollar cost averaging, says it would be silly to take profits just beca...

My initial investment in Vanguard's S&P fund was a paltry 3,000 in 2008, and I had it on auto-pilot after that. Sometimes I changed the timing of contributions between every week and every month, and sometimes I changed the amount of contributions between a few hundred $ at a time and $1,000 at a ti...
