Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

In my lifetime, there was another deadly flu epidemic in the United States. The flu spread from Hong Kong to the United States, arriving December 1968 and peaking a year later. It ultimately killed 100,000 people in the U.S., mostly over the age of 65, and one million worldwide. . . . Nothing close...

Re: Why should I buy Treasuries now?

I have one set of LTT's that have an interest rate of 4.25%. The maturity date is 2040 which means, according to HB's strategy, I'm suppose to sell and re-purchase this year. So, would you do that? I'm thinking NOT. I understand deflation protection and have even seen it work (in 2008) but the idea...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Here are two headlines one right after the other on Google News.... "New mutation indicates that the coronavirus might be weakening, study says" "Study reports mutant coronavirus. It may be more contagious" My suggestion for whoever at Google decides what stories to link to and w...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Been hearing the number 66k deaths from CV all over the place lately but here is what it says on the official CDC website.... Looks like they are using the number of pneumonia deaths to get that figure. Just another example of misinformation. https://i.postimg.cc/QCNJHryR/Capture.gif https://www.cdc...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

When you consider "the price of a life" there isn't going to be one number that fits all. It matters how many years of lost life you're talking about. For most of the COVID victims it's a few years, at most. The average COVID victim is 79 years old. Life expectancy at that age is on the o...

Re: I'm worried about stagflation and am selling all my bonds tomorrow.

I have a strong hunch that the next few weeks will be really bad for bonds. Have you ever done a statistical analysis to put your "strong hunches" to the test to evaluate how true they are? I have no problem with "hunches" as I have my own. Based on my own life experiences howev...

Re: Stock scream room

Maybe we should start calling the Permanent Portfolio the Pessimist's portfolio. Definitely not! It's true that the PP attracts a certain subset of people with doubts about the stock market, but the portfolio itself isn't inherently optimistic or pessimistic. The whole point is that it maintains a ...

Re: Stock scream room

Stock market investors are currently optimistic for the same reason that most people still think that we can all stay locked down for 12-18 months until a vaccine arrives, without utterly crippling the economy: Delusion, plain and simple. That pretty much sums up what I'm seeing and although it's a...

Re: Stock scream room

So I read that April is going to turn out to be the best month for stocks since 1974. Sounds good until you remember that March was the worse since some year in the great depression. What I can't figure is where all the optimism coming from. Do stock investors see something that I don't? Seems to me...

Yeah, lame-o post and oversight. Maybe I should switch from "bedraggled" to "Confused & Forgetful." Too long? Anyway, then, explain why the Giants gave his number "10" to Eli Manning, please. I had actually forgotten that Tarkenton played for the Giants. I've alway...

Nobody will be able to explain that because Fran Tarkenton IS in the Hall of Fame.
