Really good documentary on a Russian journalist and Novaya Gazeta . The cojones on this guy! Another Frontline production. Don't know if it will play in everyone's region, but there's always a transcript. This was released 12 days ago but the transcript is already there. It starts out in Russian wi...

I had to Google whether "cracks $90" meant on the upside or downside. Looks like some pretty violent losses.

Hi Smithy! As an aside here is the drawdown with Spanish Shares replaced by Developed World TSM. So 50% of the portfolio is not linked to the Spanish currency. Still would hurt if you just retired! The drawdown drops to 17% if the bonds are replaced by UNHEDGED Developed world bonds. Bit better I t...

Seth Klarman's Margin of Safety is a book that literally sells for thousands of dollars online. It's quite rare, as only a few hundred copies were ever printed. Hal wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 6:18 am This caught my attention while poking around Tylers site! Obviously Gold was not much use in Spain in the 70's. If you used 50% 10year bonds to more closely approximate long term bonds the results were even worse.
OUCH!

I think this really highlights the importance of global diversification.

I know Steve Bannon is the devil in some people’s eyes (and on South Park), but I have to admit, he’s an excellent speaker. In the opening minutes, talking about AT&T stock and the financial crisis…it’s just good. I’m not saying I’m aligned with the guy. https://youtu.be/pm5xxlajTW0 And special...

old thread, old pick. It is not my next pick. There’s an interesting article in the WSJ about Apple’s struggle to replace Qualcomm’s modem chip with something in-house. It’s relatively difficult compared to designing their own microprocessor. In the meantime, Apple will buy the chips from Qcom thro...

Canada and the USA are exceptionally economically and politically aligned. If Canada is getting nuked, it's probably because the USA is getting nuked too, in which case I think my point still stands. But are we really worried about 1st world countries getting nuked? And if we are, isn't mere surviv...

Nah, they didn’t really show up. Neither world war resulted in invasion of U.S. territory like Germany. A nuclear bomb was never dropped on the U.S. like Japan. The Cuban Missile Crisis was similarly peacefully resolved. There’s never been a political coup. The market has never gone to zero like ma...
