Re: Gold Purchase!
The Perth Mint ETF for ease/convenience/expense ratio; and the inconvenient but still valuable ability to show up in Perth and get gold handed to you. Bullion coins from a dealer or dealers of your choice. Just "enough to get by". Like maybe peaking at 80 ounces IMO. This part all depends ...

Ticker symbol for gold?
I've googled it, can't seem to get something that works in Yahoo Finance on my phone.
XAU doesn't work.
XAUUSD=X looked like it was going to work, but the price never changes from $1301.xx.
Anyone know?

Re: Dalio on MMT
Yeah, that's what we need. Economists running the country. Deciding who wins, who loses. Essentially setting the prices for everything. With all of the cronyism, special interests, front running, and perverse incentives that will go along with it. But, smart people will be running it, what could pos...

Yeah, I cannot image what the world would look like if our monetary system implodes. Before the digital age, it might have been survivable. Now, it would be about like Venezuela, I think.

Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
I cannot see it ever happening except after the economic singularity when all currencies have gone to zero, maybe more than once, and we are in a spot where only real things are trusted for value and exchange. It would take a very long tail event to get there.

Don't forget the beneficial effect on pension plans of propping up stock prices. Can developed countries even afford a 10 to 15 year bear market? The seas look benign right now, but somewhere out there be dragons.

Every time I read about MMT, I start giggling. I mean, come on. No one can be that stupid, can they?
Obviously they can. Which is why it tickles me so.

Re: Perth Mint Physical Gold ETF (AAAU)
I've been reading up on AAAU. I like the expense ratio of only 0.18%, versus 0.40% for GLD. I like that an investor can redeem shares for physical gold, although it's not the easiest process. No surprise there. But at least it can be done. The gold is stored, allocated, at Perth Mint. They are the c...

I'm looking online, trying to find a listing of the dealers that work with the TBD. So far I'm coming up empty. Anyone have a link?

Thanks TN. I know that's a bit of a personal question, but it's nice to hear that someone here has actual experience with a given gold storage place.

That's interesting. There is always a little anxiety with those kinds of things, like you have to act immediately.

Here is a short column on gold and a very conservative portfolio by a guy who is not a shill for some gold dealer.

Heck, we are still coming out of the last ice age which was only 10,000 years ago. Who knows where the top is? The climate history is one of ice age after ice age.
I'm very skeptical because of the political motives on both sides. Even though I'm on one of them.

Re: Another solid January
I bought it in late 2008 or early 2009. Since then I've felt stuck in GLD because of the tax hit for taking a gain. But I happened to have a loss on something in 2018, so I was able to get some of it out.

Re: Another solid January
I sold a bunch of GLD in December, to take gains which will offset a loss on a sale of something else. Of course, I didn't go buy gold at Texas Bullion Depository or some other place as I had intended, because gold has been going nowhere, so why rush? Of course....
