Hahaha brilliant! As it happens, I actually know some frightened liberals that emigrated to Portugal last year.

Re: The Left is eating itself

It also speaks to the degraded culture of Seattle that nobody took action or even tried to call the police on this pervert. They have been completely brainwashed. I was just visiting a good friend in Portland and couple nights ago we went out to a bar for some local color. A fat, presumably feminis...

The Left is eating itself

Not exactly new, but I just stumbled across it, and it was too good not to share: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/390425/students-transgender-woman-cant-be-diversity-officer-because-shes-white-man-now And the same story from a more reputable source: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/19/magazine/w...

Re: Old desktop hard drives

Or... you know, just install DBAN on a CD, boot from it, and do a 3-pass (or 30 if you're paranoid) wipe. Though depending on the circumstances, I suppose a sledgehammer could be simpler. At my last job at a government lab, they had a disk shredder (basically a super-powered wood-chipper) they'd use...

Re: Men, women and sex

Which elements of this dynamic in a marriage do you feel the man has some control over, i.e. how do you get a wife that isn't putting out to start putting out again? Or how do you prevent the marriage from degenerating to this point in the first place? It's of course horribly dysfunctional to actual...

To each his own.  If you're both happy, that's great.  I actually had the hunch it wasn't just because she loves you so much, it's also really fun for her.  And the fact that she is so honest is very good. She may settle down more as she gets older and also she may get more fearful of worst case sc...

Re: Men, women and sex

Although that Valentine's day gift is basically every man's dream come true, it's not the kind of thing that screams out "stable long-term relationship" to me. The ugly truth is that in a healthy and functional marriage, there's going to be a lot of dead time filled with boring stuff, dru...

Eh, I'm still giddy and this forum is obscure and tiny enough that I'm not overly concerned about my presidential ambitions being thwarted. I mean, really, I respect Bill Clinton *more* for cheating on that hag of a wife of his. Alas no 70s music, it was a mix of EDM and melodic dubstep - as befit o...

She even surprised me with a ridiculously hot 19 year old for Valentine's Day :P. Wow.  As I was reading your post, I wasn't expecting that. I'll bet you weren't either. Nope. I came home to a note on the door "If you could have two of anything in the world, what would they be? [...]" I f...

Re: Men, women and sex

As a generalization, I imagine it's largely true. But I started to disregard most generalizations about women from my manosphere-reading days because I realized that I'm more interested in the exceptions than the herd, and spending too much time classifying/analyzing the herd makes it too difficult ...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

I think when I feel comfortable increasing the equity allocation (i.e. after we see some kind of correction), I'm going to split my assets into two Golden Butterfly portfolios, one in my Roth and one in my 401k/IRA. One will use VTI/VBR for the equity components and the other will use QVAL/QMOM (or ...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

Can't backtest it, but I'm considering a Golden Butterfly portfolio that replaces LCB and SCV with QVAL and QMOM.

Theoretically, QVAL and QMOM should remain at least as uncorrelated to each other as LCB and SCV right?

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

I could save you some time if I haven't mentioned it before, but this is the ETF that you want: QVAL I think the ideal 2 stock etfs would be a value and a momentum ETF, because these are 80% correlated to the market but uncorrelated to each other and both add value over time over the market index. ...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

Echoing what many here have said about it being the worst time to switch portfolios, I won't be deviating from my HB PP allocation until there's some kind of major market move. But even if it's not as agnostic as the HB PP, as long as there's still reasonable hedging against black swan events and di...

When we both have some time, would you have any interest in collaborating on something? Definitely maybe.  :) The website is a fun outlet but I've intentionally kept it very simple to date and I'm not actively looking for more work.  Perhaps once I work down my to-do list a little more I'll be more...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

I'm wondering whether there's a vehicle to capture a similar portfolio effect as SCV that's more intelligent than VBR, yet more passive/cheaper than QVAL. I guess it's time for me to start learning more about portfolio theory and conducting backtests... rather than relying on you fine gentleman to d...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

Since 1975, a 30/60/10 would have returned 90 basis points (0.9%) higher CAGR than the PP.  My own portfolio (splitting equity equally between TSM, SCV and EM) would have returned a full 2.0% higher CAGR than the PP.  The HBPP is a fine portfolio.  I might hold it again when I retire. In your portf...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

Question for y'all who are dabbling with these alternative lazy portfolios: would you just rebalance annually? Or have you considered/tested defining some sort of variable rebalancing bands? But that's not why you should invest in foreign securities.  You're specifically there for the higher economi...

Having been investigated and granted a Q clearance in the past year, I'm personally affected by this. Re: My Latest Research on the PP's Big Fat Flaw aka Achilles' Heel

I will be implementing these new strategic weights to my equalized market cap (EMC) PP which is my new default PP (I looove Schwab!). Your numbers and thinking make a lot of sense to me, so I'm going to follow your lead and reduce the gold allocation. Thanks a ton for sharing this with us. Could yo...

Really? If they moved slowly on this wouldn't everyone just pull their basis out, rendering their looting machinations largely ineffective?
