Re: 2018

Thanks, Benko. I needed some new reading material for those (increasingly common) nights when I just can't sleep. I perused the Longecity board a bit last night. Pretty abbreviated, high-level discussion for somebody like me, who washed out halfway through o-chem. Also a fairly extreme bent, I thoug...

Re: 2018

You want to check out the forums at Longecity.org, particularly the subforum on biosense, health and nutrition. Benko, thank you very much for that link! I'm not familiar with that forum but will happily spend some time this weekend looking at it. Are you a regular participant? MG didn't seem much ...

Re: 2018

I'm hoping for a new and vibrant nutrition & alternative health thread, something along the lines of the Permanent Supplements thread (which has to be the best discussion ever posted to the internet), only broader. There are so many novel, scientifically-based, discoveries on the horizon, most o...

Re: New Tax Plan Deductions

Seems to me that the only "simplification" in store for most people is the elimination of the deductions that made it worthwhile to itemize. My guess is that most ordinary people will come to regret the loss of that complexity.

Re: New Tax Plan Deductions

1) With real estate and SALT taxes being limited to 10k, and the new married deduction going to $24k, it would seem assuming similar numbers that taking the standard deduction will be better for me, right? An article I ran across earlier this week (which I have no hope of finding now) asserted that...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

He was an impulsive blob of contradictions. My own (entirely subjective and purely speculative) interpretation is that Trump came into office with virtually no understanding of the system or of the issues, and that he's had to rely upon a cast of characters with establishment ties to navigate his w...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Seems to me this is nothing more than what we lived with throughout the Bush, Clinton, and Obama presidencies. I see absolutely nothing new and different from Trump in the areas of civil liberties and foreign policy.

Moda, I don't follow you when it comes to North Korea. What has changed, in your view, to make North Korea a greater threat to the world than before the inception of the Trump presidency?

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

I recently heard an excellent interview with Stephen Cohen, self-avowed liberal and professor emeritus of Russian studies at New York University and professor emeritus of politics at Princeton University. His view is that the recurring baseless accusations of treason against President Trump have bec...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

As I skim this morning's news concerning the surfacing of FBI e-mails referring to an "insurance policy" addressed to the unlikely possibility of a Trump presidency, I'm thinking that you've got to be nuts to conclude that Trump has voluntarily allied himself with the Deep State. Who could...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Where is the best place to read about the so-called deep state? This is a very interesting and eye-opening multi-chapter work that delves into the Deep State's intimate connections to Hollywood, the music industry, pedophilia, the military-industrial complex, the U.S. intelligence apparatus, the oc...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

In today's headlines, the Pentagon has made known its intent to defy President Trump with regard to his ban on transgenders in the military. So you tell me: Who's actually in charge, and what reason is there to believe that the Pentagon isn't establishing US foreign policy as well?

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Trump has no problem with the CIA, permanent war, gangster global capitalism, etc, as long as it's doing what he sees as being "in our interests" as they murder, torture, lie, steal, and secretly manipulate the public. He just wants to use these tools for less globalist aims. He's no enem...

Further to Moda's request for a "source" establishing the absence of evidence sufficient to initiate an investigation, the following testimony provided by FBI Director Christopher Wray at a House Judiciary Committee hearing yesterday would seem to pretty much settle the issue: Two simple q...

Re: The tragedy of being an honest "progressive"

Derschowitz, the civil libertarian, hasn't changed; what has changed is that the principled ideals once defining of liberalism have been abandoned by the Progressive Left in favor of outcome-based politics. I lived through this transition, having once been viewed as "liberal" for my views...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Right, and all this Trump-Russia hysteria is just more of the same racket, along with trying to bring down a duly elected president as you mentioned. It would seem to me that the military-industrial complex doesn't think Trump will be sufficiently hawkish to enable them to meet their growth targets...

Just for fun, I quickly looked up the military spending for 2016 for the US and Russia. One was at $69 billion and the other at $611 billion. I'm pretty sure everybody knows which country has the larger budget. An old but good book on the subject: War Is A Racket, by Major General Smedley Butler. N...

Former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy says there is still no discernible evidence of any ...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

But what do you make of Flynn’s statement about his faith in God and needing to set things right and the legal analysis that says prosecutors don’t give a deal like his unless they get real dirt on someone higher up the chain? Your guess is as good as mine. I would surmise from what's transpired to...
