I am still in the accumulation phase; much to my dismay. For every item that I donate to goodwill or sell at the community yard sale, two items take its place.

You know, when I think about it there probably was no good answer to the question I asked. What is he going to say - we don't put our best and brightest people in charge of the targeted retirement funds, we save those for those willing to pay 2% more? I am sure a good salesman would have come up wi...

Just read over at the Bogleheads site that the person (Mike) that ran the Long-Term Returns website / blog has a pending lawsuit.
I enjoyed the back testing tool and his blog. I hope everything works out in his favor.

Re: Is the successful salaried retail investor a myth?
If you want to live off your investments, you just need a shitload of money. That's it. You can't count on interest rates being high enough for bonds or cash alone to work, you can't count on any individual market such as gold or stocks doing well over any consistent timeframe, and you can't even c...

Looks like AgAuMoney was right on the stock picking versus index for the stock portion. The marketing page for Perm has it listed as indexed but the total holdings show stock picking took place. From the website they talk about indexing Passive index exposure: each portion of the Fund does not try t...

Odd, there was not a reason given. Sounds like an opportunity for a 3rd party courier service to take over and fill the void; unless that has been blocked as well.

I will go with money I can afford to lose: Fun money such as vacations- I budget a certain amount each month for vacation planning. We can use the money on any vacation trip we want as long as we only use the amount we have saved up. If we use less by taking just a mini vacation, the left over amou...

Re: QE and the PP
What effect do you think the QE is having on the HBPP right now? Is the QE causing short term bonds (SHY) to have such a low return? I did a quick review of the years that gold had a loss and it seemed that Cash was always there with a steady return; except for 1994. Right now it appears Cash is not...

Re: Oh how it hurts to see no gains
My VP is for retirement and the PP for an emergency, short-term and intermediate term goals. The VP decline in 2008 was a rebalancing opportunity that served me well. I was not invested in the PP at the time, but after the decline knew that I did not want "the money I can't afford to lose"...
