Re: Interesting Reddit thread about economics
Austrian's. Hes talking about Austrian's . And there theorys about economic's. I know, 4 posts late. The only thing I hate worse than the misuse of apostrophe's is pedantry. Kind of like asking "leaves" questions (vs. trees or forrest questions) about Genesis just for the sake of snarkin...

Re: Evolution discussion
why Genesis can be trusted as real history of Creation about 6000 years ago and a global Flood. I have no problem with the concept of intelligent design but if this means I have to believe that the earth was created in 7 literal 24 hour days only 6000 years ago and that the loving and forgiving cre...

Re: Favorite camping goods
If I ever get back into camping I would sleep in a hammock. Off the wet muddy ground, protected from bugs and critters, can put mosquito net up and rain tarp to stay dry. Light to carry and pack and can be insulated to stay warm. No desert camping for you! I guess that means you really are a tree ...

Re: Interesting Reddit thread about economics
My wife forwarded this to me; it's a Reddit thread in the "change my view" section in which someone postulates that the entire field of economics is basically politically-driven bunk and asks for economists to try to change his view. Pretty cool discussion. Here's a snippet from the top r...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Mountaineer, I listened to your first audio link. The hosts are smart. They do a good job of dismantling some atheist premises... or at least showing how they aren't very consistent. However, as an agnostic, who thinks atheists are a bit to confident and quick to jump to conclusions that don't l...

Re: Evolution discussion
Well certainly don't be quiet. But it's one thing to be skeptical of a scientific assertion. It's another to call it a "wild-ass assertion." It's yet another altogether to call an advocate of it of being a force for evil. I guess if evil is pre-defined as not believing in God, the only G...

Well certainly don't be quiet. But it's one thing to be skeptical of a scientific assertion. It's another to call it a "wild-ass assertion." In my humble opinion, there is a HUGE difference between a scientific assertion and an assertion based on "science" that is really, as Des...

It took me waaaay too long to get that. I'm getting slow. Hyphens rule! ;) ... Mountaineer A hyphen would not have helped, whereas spelling reckless correctly would have. I missed that on the first read also. D'oh! Are you feckless, reckless, or wreckless when it comes to hyphens? After all, a f...

Re: iPhone 6
I hear the camera in the new iPhones is approaching DSLR quality from some of the reviews I've read. My son is getting a 64 GB iPhone 6 to replace his dying iPhone 4 (cracked back, duck tape repair, after a bad fall but it still is functional); he said the 6 Plus is too big to be convenient for his...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
I'm reminded of this C.S. Lewis quote: "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." For someone who doesn't believe, it's of no importance, and so hours of study is a waste of time. If one actuall...

I don't know about the rest of you, but it took me a lot of study and time to somewhat master chemistry, chemical engineering, calculus, penmanship, physics, spelling, how to be a fantastic husband ;) etc. etc. etc. I think that's it, really. I'm not gonna study chemistry or physics if I can't get...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Careful.. you are sounding more like a Gnostic/agnostic with every post moda ;D I think gnostic and agnostic, though the words sound similar, are not similar ideas. Gnostics believe(d) in special revelation, or gnosis. Gnostics were generally anti-materialism, while agnostics (or atheists) gener...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
:D Part of the problem seems to arise from most of what I've seen from the faithful involves pointing skeptics at huge tomes written by theologians or hour-long lectures delivered by ministers, as though these sources are going to be remotely convincing to people who do not already support the foun...

Anyone want to make an offer on my Husqavarna (sp) chainsaw? Only used a couple of hours. Like new. I'll throw in a new chain and some bar oil. Oh, and you will have to determine how to make it start ..... Should have bought something at Harbor Freight.

Mountaineer, To address one area of inconsistency/curiosity for me.... Do you have anything to say of the fact that the Bible tells us how we can treat slaves, and how long we can own them? PS and Moda, Thanks for giving it a whirl. The important thing, from my perspective, is not to agree or disagree with what I gave as an example (I just whipped it together in a couple of minutes). Mountaineer, To me, the "why" of anything that doesn't contain motivations is essentially "how?" For instance, if you say "why does a rock fall?" I'd say "gravity." If you said "how is it that a rock falls?" I'd also say "gravity." Wh...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
The only presuppositions I really think I'm making is that I exist on this earth, and there are an infinite number of other truths I could believe, so I have to accept certain systems as the best way of developing truths beyond that. The systems I try to use, logic and the scientific method, haven'...
