Re: Inflation Reduction Act

Not to try to push this conversation too far off on a tangent, but is there some recognition that failure to transition off fossil fuels could have massive inflationary impacts in the not too distant future? Haven't read the contents of inflation reduction act so can't comment on it's effectiveness ...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5

I don't have an issue with Mathjaks criticism of the portfolios performance as it's mostly just objective performance numbers at this point. What I don't understand though is his unwillingness to consider that perhaps his investing lifetime encompassed an exceptionally prosperperous time for stocks ...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5

I think Mathjaks analysis is a bit clouded by recency bias as well as analyzing outcomes specific to one country blessed by exceptionally favorable circumstances and demographics. The performance of the stock market in the United States over the course of Mathjaks lifetime has been truly incredible....

Re: What kind of inflation are we experiencing?

But if you're right and the whole world ends up like Japan, wouldn't we be ecstatic? Japan is a wonderful place: politically stable, high income, high standard of living, high life expectancy, good education, good health care, reasonably affordable, advanced transportation infrastructure, ease of a...

Re: What kind of inflation are we experiencing?

I'm not as optimistic about renewables as you are. I'm sort of in the camp that fusion is our best option with maybe nuclear as a bridge. Wind and solar are intensive in terms of input energy for mining, manufacturing, installation, and come with a host of highly polluting processes in production an...

Re: What kind of inflation are we experiencing?

Interesting and telling that in terms of returns, the 100% stock portfolio was the best overall (at least in the USA; negligible difference in the UK example). This pretty much supports my thinking over the past couple of years that the best long-term portfolio is 100% stocks. If you don't want to ...

Re: Falling yields

Man, I don't know. I keep running into business people and businesses that are desperate for workers. And big wage increases. I'll spare you the anecdotes, but they are everywhere. My prediction, inflation soon and bigger than you expect. So will that be stagflation? Seems like a plausible scenario...

From the longevity studies I've seen and the scientists I've listened to...lately David Sinclair...what you eat by and large comes second to frequency of feeding in that smaller feeding window coupled with calorie restriction (while simultaneously maintaining complete nutritional intake) will delive...

Re: Falling yields

In the US, more people are entering their peak spending/reproducing/earning years But they dont seem to be reproducing...and children are one of the primary reasons driving housing and spending. To me it seems that relative to 60 years ago we have strongly declining demographics. How long it takes ...

People are completely ignoring deflationary headwinds from declining demographics amongst all major economies including China, technology advances, high levels of debt, overextended asset prices, and gridlocked government.

The Rise of the City State

Take heart libertarians...this might have legs.

Nation-states came late to history, and there’s plenty of evidence to suggest they won’t make it to the end of the century

Fed talking about tapering, everyone freaking out about inflation but the bond market shrugs it off and yields continue to drop...hmmm, almost as if maybe this whole inflation thing has been overblown again.

Crypto doesn't protect you either...as someone pointing a gun at your head could very easily convince you to send funds to another address.

Imagine being a Chinese factory worker, saving 50% of your paltry wages in Treasuries, only to see your loans to the US government being doled out to loafs so that they can buy the stuff that you make at Wal Mart. And Trump had the sheer audacity to say it was the CHINESE who were manipulating thei...

Re: Attention, Doodle!

I do think maybe this unemployment insurance has given people the means to negotiate more effectively for wage increases...which I have advocated for as an alternative to government intervention. LOL, except this is 100% government intervention, albeit unintentional. Sure, that's because individual...
