Re: Why cryptocurrencies are a terrible idea
Cryptocurrencies are probably the best investment around. If you believe, as I do, that they're the prototype for a centralized digital monetary system, it makes all the sense in the world to keep them good and inflated until all the kinks in the system get worked out. Think about it: Why spend tril...

Re: Major Measels Outbreak Fearred in Washington State (anti-vaxxers)
Without meaning to fall into the "golden age" fallacy, I do wonder why risks generally thought statistically quite negligible 50 years ago loom so large today. Are people's immune systems shot from all the environmental crap we're exposed to? Have bugs become more virulent? I'm going to ta...

Re: Goddamn mountain lions
Cougars have become a real problem in this area. Not too long ago, my dog treed a cub in a wooded area just outside of my house. I heard lots of big branches breaking, and my dog was going crazy at the base of the tree, leading me to believe that she had probably treed a small bear. I finally got my...

Re: Major Measels Outbreak Fearred in Washington State (anti-vaxxers)
I'm old enough to remember being intentionally exposed before the age of 7 to not only measles but to mumps and chicken pox. The thought was that these illnesses were easily weathered by kids but could create problems if contracted later on in life. You've really got to wonder about today's "sp...

Re: Looks like HB was correct about offshore assets
Who would have thought that people would embrace the idea of paying for nearly everything with credit and debit cards? Any sort of privacy was lost at that point, leaving for the future yet another equally dim cause for anxiety: the possibility that the centralized monetary authority could make your...

Re: Justice Ginsberg Has Lung Cancer
My understanding is that the procedure she just underwent was a lobectomy. That's a pretty big deal. I inferred from this that a biopsy had previously been done and that the diagnosis was made some time before we ever heard about it. Am I wrong here?

You LOL now, but when the idiot leftist protesters here start destroying our cities, it won't be nearly as amusing. The stupidest thing Macron could have done was give in to the protesters, and that's exactly what he did. What happened to never negotiate with terrorists? Now the mobs here will be e...

Re: How I Found Freedom
I've never been able to read anything on a computer screen. As you might imagine, my toner bill gets quite large. I actually got incredibly lucky a couple of years back and found a hardbound copy of the book in the local Goodwill store. That was a day to remember! But there have been many times that...

How I Found Freedom
What a superlative book. Unfortunately, copies are going for $35 and up these days, and those generally are the ones in tattered condition. I got the impression that Craig and MediumTex (never knew his real name) were working on some projects with the heirs. Does anyone happen to know whether there ...

Re: Fear is the mind-killer
I've come to embrace fear. Far from a mind-killer, it's one of the most efficient learning tools we have. Research has shown that organisms adapt far more efficiently to negative reinforcement than to positive; you touch a hot stove once and never again. The so-called "negative" personalit...

And what do you think she wants? Besides death threats and public shaming by 30% of the population, that is? Just as predicted: Christine Blasey Ford, the California psychology professor who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct 36 years ago, received a $1 million windf...

It's a painful stretch to call this a "civil war." In fact it's about as goofy as calling a two-year-old's tantrum a family crisis.

Re: The Left is Eating Itself Pt. II
I've never been sure what is meant by "post-modernism," so I looked it up: Postmodernism, also spelled post-modernism, in Western philosophy, a late 20th-century movement characterized by broad skepticism, subjectivism, or relativism; a general suspicion of reason; and an acute sensitivity...

Speaking as a late boomer myself with millenial kids, if the crime rate is lower it's because they are too lazy to go commit them, or need one of us to show them how. :P Or because there are cameras in every aisle and all the merchandise that has any appeal to young people is now contained in theft...

Diversity and globalization don't help these people. But neither do corporate tax cuts and the military industrial complex. And free healthcare, tax-credits, and other safety nets sure as f'k DO help them, yet they eschew those options in favor of a bombastic clown because they see themselves as te...

She's not asking anyone to believe her wholeheartedly without evidence. She's just asking that her testimony be given as evidence to his character. Re: Kavanaugh
I taught a class to high-school aged kids not long ago and was struck by the extent to which young people are seemingly unable to distinguish reality from a position asserted with the object of convincing others of its truth. It seemed to be much more than a political or ideological preference; rath...
