Re: Member requests banning and removal of all traces

I removed “fool”, but damnit people only we ourselves can return this forum back to its glorious beginnings. I would not be retired and living peacefully off of the PP if I had not encountered this forum 10+ years ago. Let’s not ruin the content with this constant bickering. Maybe we can start 2021...

I'm doing the same. Let's compare notes at some point.

Re: Smartest Man in America Is Convinced the U.S. Election Was Stolen

Anything in particular about the election that makes you think fraud might be involved? I have to start by admitting there’s motive. Follow that with varying degrees of tightness of vote-tallying supervision. It’s not that I see some organized conspiracy out there, but only the possibility: the mea...

Chinese Permanent Portfolio

Pardon me if this has already been discussed, but is there a way for a US investor to assemble the functional equivalent of a Chinese Permanent Portfolio? This is to say the three buckets other than gold would need to be Chinese i.e. Chinese stocks, China Long Term Government Bonds, Cash in the form...

You should not be able to pardon yourself, for obvious reasons. I forget what our Constitutionalists say here. The ones who believe we should always follow the Constitution and it is always so clear as to what is permissible or not. Can or can he not pardon himself according to what the Constitutio...

Yeah, all these -isms are born of the same strain of simplistic, purity-minded thinking that if we all got back to the ONE SINGLE THING that's the most important thing evarrrrrrr, then we'd have brought about the utopia. Communism denies the value of anything other than collective solidarity Capita...

Nah, I don't feel like the basic idea can be salvaged. And because I don't believe in the goal anymore, I don't feel comfortable being a part of helping somebody else achieve that goal. Also, a lot of it is frankly a bit embarrassing for me to read today. So many headstrong and unsupported assertio...

Next move? A coup attempt. Get ready. Last night's video on the stimulus bill served no other intended function but to galvanize Trump supporters in advance of a bold (reckless?) move. He needs his supporters to believe that he and only he is their advocate. The rest of government cannot be trusted...

Given what has happened this year with the economy, my old self would be SO pissed off at the world -- how can stocks keep on rising when the world suck...

If you worked at a hospital that was going on ED divert several times a week all year round, then you're working in a seriously underbedded market. What exactly do you do? May I take a guess? Please don't say do nothing, let it run. In my market, the hospital system is becoming totally overloaded, 8% capacity left in the statewide ICU licensed bed count. It is absolutely, 100% normal for hospitals to hit capacity every winter. My own hospital sends out "Surge Alerts" when that...

Put me down as "pro Darwinism". I don't understand the argument that if you don't want the vaccine, you are being selfish and putting other people's lives at risk. Wouldn't the only people with lives at risk be the ones that elected not to get vaccinated - and therefore explicitly embrace...

What I don't understand about the right though, and perhaps you can help me understand this. It just seems like the only option the right is willing to accept is a darwinist survival of the fittest. They seem unwilling to do anything to try to fix or reduce the spread. The push back against wearing...

2. Every Uber driver I've talked to about the subject. Several have told me they have regular full-time jobs with a long car commute. Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

I think Pugchief hit the key issue on the head - greed. We are mostly a greedy people. We want the see-saw firmly planted on the “I want more stuff, or the means to acquire it” side rather than on the “I have enough” side. Bigger house, flashier car, dozens of shirts, pants and shoes, and then go r...
