That's something of an exaggeration. It's better than the traditional methods of stirring up animal spirits. I see where you're going with this, and no, I haven't tried homebrewing since my botched rhubarb-wine attempt. I used to make wine with my dad when I was a kid. I was responsible for the gra...

parents can't or won't feed their kids then frankly the kids need to go into foster care. I'm always curious about this. I'm not qualified to comment on it, but whenever I hear statements about how the kids are depending on these lunches, dark thoughts run through my head that maybe their mom and d...

Re: A Fed Thread
OK I had a WTF... moment. Over the past several weeks the Fed has lower the interest rate to ZERO. They have just Screwed savers in CD's/t-Bills /interest bearing accounts. Then They created 700 Billion and counting out of thin air and put it on the Feds balance sheet. It you created Billion with a ...

This is a fuzzy request, but can people on the forum with a longer tail of experience than me share their thoughts on this: How does this period feel compared to 2008/2009? Yes, I can see the stock market numbers, I can see some old forum posts, but it's not the same as being there. In 2008/2009 I ...

I've been in Mexico all week. Just getting back. It's as if nothing had changed down there. Business as usual. Will staying home for 3 days, or 14 for that matter, make any difference after going thru the airport? Is everyone just planning to stay home for the next 2 weeks, or only those over 70? T...

I always thought that it was when they lose confidence in their Government, when gold took off.Cortopassi wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:25 pm Fed buying bonds.
And that worked for about 1.5 hours....
All I've ever read is when people lose confidence in the Fed, everyone will run to gold. Hope that happens.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
The Fed will inject even more stimulus and cut rates to keep the stock market up. But the savers who are living off of interest are going to take it between the eyes. Then how long will it take before the stimulus to be taken back off of the Feds balance sheet? Monetizing worked so well for the Fed...

I've been seeing that people can be contagious with Wuhan Coronavirus up to 5 days before symptoms appear and for up to 37 (!) days after, long after the person feels perfectly well again. Pretty horrifying. That is why the majority of the population will be exposed to the Wuhan virus here in the U...

EDIT: The Fed is now saying that they're going to do whatever it takes in terms of monetary policy to prevent a market and economic crash. However, unlike 2008/2009, this is a problem being imposed on us by nature. It's not just a crisis of confidence in our banking sector that can be quelled away ...

Ok I have a question? What is the Big deal with Corona testing? If I am sick, do I care if I have Corona or that I have the Flu? Not really. I feel like crap. Does anyone go to a public gym? What is attendance like - the same, with people being better about wiping things down? Or more sparse? Re: PP vs Dividend Growth Investing
Getting a return by selling requires a buyer. Agreed? That means that investors are passing around money and shares, but the sum total of all investors have not achieved more dollars until a dividend is paid. (Boglerdude might be right about buybacks, but I think that's a sneaky dividend.) How is i...

There is one public company. You are its sole owner. When it was started it had $1,000 in cash, $4,000 in real estate (unimproved land) and no liabilities. You paid the net book value for the company - $5,000. Five years later, you are still the sole owner, the company still has that $1,000 of cash...

Decades and decades ago when Ben Graham shut down his investment partnership (what today would be called a hedge fund), he simply advised people to "buy AT&T" in place of investing in his fund. The fact that they're still around and doing as well as they are... one hell of a call on G...
