Re: High cost gold depositories are you giving your gold away

But how do I send such a package across the USA and insure it for $120,000 at today's gold prices, and who knows how much in years to come? Do UPS / FedEx / DHL have special desks which handle high-value shipments like this? I guess they must. Any first-hand experiences? Cannot comment on safety de...

Hi Acuteinertia, Just wondering if you have considered doing something like: 25% Physical Gold held offshore eg: https://www.perthmint.com/invest/perth-mint-depository-program/ 75% Lifestrategy Fund eg: https://www.ie.vanguard/products/etf/lifestrategy/9492/lifestrategy-40-equity-ucits-etf-eur-accum...

Re: I Thought Gold Would Fare Better in 2022-23

OUCH! I think this really highlights the importance of global diversification. Hi Smithy! As an aside here is the drawdown with Spanish Shares replaced by Developed World TSM. So 50% of the portfolio is not linked to the Spanish currency. Still would hurt if you just retired! The drawdown drops to ...

Re: I Thought Gold Would Fare Better in 2022-23

This caught my attention while poking around Tylers site! Obviously Gold was not much use in Spain in the 70's. If you used 50% 10year bonds to more closely approximate long term bonds the results were even worse.

Re: TBonds saved me in 2008. Now, not sure what to do now.

While I don't follow the US market much, it seems both bonds and shares are rather elevated in price. As I couldn't find the 30y bond price, imagine you have 50% 10 year bonds, 25% each shares & gold. Thoughts?

Re: PP Mistakes

But what if I step back to get a bit more perspective? What if I look at the preceding 13-year period (late 1997 to late 2010)? Over that time window, the stock market had a meager CAGR of 2.7% (vs. 7.3% for the PP) and also had a stomach-churning negative return of -36.2% in 2008. The picture star...

Having said that, I am fed up reading FI books, given my performance I haven't fully understood the ones I have read and chances are very thin that I will ever understand them. Actually, last book I read on financial topics was the one written by BelangP and with a light sense of irony - I guess hi...

I recently purchased a Playstation 3 off of Facebook Marketplace for $55, and am now playing some vintage games. This has awakened a bit of an itch to buy some more vintage tech stuff and relive some old memories. I might look for an old Pentium 4 system next. You may wish to check out these sites:...

What were your biggest Permanent Portfolio mistakes? Hmm.... Thinking that Gold in an Australian PP would perform in the same manner as Gold in a US PP. 1. Recommend holding US assets as well for non-US PP holders. 2. If I knew of the PP concept when I was young, then hold Shares/Gold and gradually...

Re: What to do with a Low-Yielding 30-Year Bond

Good advice from Sophie IMHO.... Maddy - if you want to switch to a Desert Portfolio-like structure (30% stocks, 10% gold except I'd recommend closer to 20%, and the rest in a 10 year Treasury ladder), you'd be fine over the long run and it might be much simpler to deal with. Alternatively, consider...

I guess it’s a symptom of a larger phenomenon: the forum is a ghost town. Personally, I prefer a forum with infrequent, well reasoned and thoughtful posts to one with incessant arguments about trivia..... Of course, frequent , well reasoned posts would be even better! ;D ps: For infrequent posts =>...

Could we possibly revisit this question again? What (reasonably plausible) scenario could make my 1.8 percent bonds worth hanging onto--keeping in mind that I won't live nearly long enough for them to reach maturity? Could you hedge your bond holdings with some gold? At the start of this video Bela...

Re: Past performance is no guarantee of future results

My question is, for the purposes of financial planning, how do you estimate your future investment returns? The whole thing just seems like a crapshoot, which I guess it is at some level. Personally, I just take the Baseline Return as detailed here => https://portfoliocharts.com/portfolio/long-term...
