@Hal - if you recall, were there any interruptions to PM's online services during covid restrictions? I have checked Reddit before posting and the few people who have used it seem to think it's legitimate. They sure do love a photogenic stack. Thank you both for responding. At the moment I'm semi-d...

I like the idea of being able to show up and get your coins. Maybe Texas depository. <snip> And the government lost credibility If ArthurPooh is open to other options, well yes, maybe Texas. Don't know how easy it is to take gold out of the USA though. In my opinion, Singapore is preferable to Aust...

Does anyone here store their gold at Gold Avenue (https://www.goldavenue.com/)? <snip> It seems too good to be true, and yet there are no usual scam indicators. Has anyone dealt with this company? Have I missed something? Add-on question to avoid spamming the forum with repetitive threads (and on t...

Re: I do not undestand the theory behind international PP at all
Obviously the smaller the home market, the greater the proportion of US investment: an investor in a country with 1% of world market cap would be ~44% invested in the US. On this basis, US stocks would constitute 1/3 to 1/2 of any non-US resident's portfolio. Thanks Tarentola, will definitely read ...

It's also interesting that HB didn't consider cash a true hedge for tight money recession - merely something that won't depreciate as much as the other three assets and will allow rebalancing into them. Then it appears the denomination of cash is not terribly relevant, and in a developed non-US eco...

Just for fun, try substituting European domestic cash in a US permanent portfolio over on Portfolio Charts.

But how do I send such a package across the USA and insure it for $120,000 at today's gold prices, and who knows how much in years to come? Re: I Thought Gold Would Fare Better in 2022-23
OUCH! I think this really highlights the importance of global diversification. Hi Smithy! As an aside here is the drawdown with Spanish Shares replaced by Developed World TSM. So 50% of the portfolio is not linked to the Spanish currency. Still would hurt if you just retired! The drawdown drops to ...

This caught my attention while poking around Tylers site! Obviously Gold was not much use in Spain in the 70's. If you used 50% 10year bonds to more closely approximate long term bonds the results were even worse.

While I don't follow the US market much, it seems both bonds and shares are rather elevated in price. As I couldn't find the 30y bond price, imagine you have 50% 10 year bonds, 25% each shares & gold. Thoughts?

But what if I step back to get a bit more perspective? What if I look at the preceding 13-year period (late 1997 to late 2010)? Over that time window, the stock market had a meager CAGR of 2.7% (vs. 7.3% for the PP) and also had a stomach-churning negative return of -36.2% in 2008. The picture star...

Having said that, I am fed up reading FI books, given my performance I haven't fully understood the ones I have read and chances are very thin that I will ever understand them. Actually, last book I read on financial topics was the one written by BelangP and with a light sense of irony - I guess hi...
