Re: Small Cap Value seems cheap at the moment

Which small cap value fund are you in? And feel free to throw out any growth fund you think are good. But I am trying to stay disciplined and stick to a golden butterfly. Especially after this article by Tyler. https://portfoliocharts.com/2021/12/16/three-secret-ingredients-of-the-most-efficient-po...

Re: Permanent Broker

Is it easy to see purchase history IE price paid date of purchase and current price. And are you able to sell specific shares? Yes, you click on the ticker in the list of positions in the account and it will open the purchase history with dates, cost basis, current value etc. https://i.postimg.cc/X...

Re: Permanent Broker

I vouch for Fidelity with both hands. They offer tons of stuff including cash management account (it's a brokerage account with FDIC-insured core scattered over multiple banks and it includes debit card), HSA account where you can buy anything, good cash back credit card, excellent US-based customer...

Re: SCV in the GB

Some additional options are SLYV and IJS. They are both "S&P 600 Small Cap Value" ETFs. +1 on SLYV and IJS. I also use AVUV, which seems to be gaining interest (AUM reached 4.8B) and sports a fairly low ER of 0.25%. There are several topics on Avantis ETFs on Bogleheads. Personally, I...

Re: Vanguard has FDIC insured settlement account

Regardless that they have this, I like Fidelity's approach better. Their cash management has far better features, albeit with less yield than Vanguard due to higher fees. Second that, even though Fidelity's MM funds have higher ER right now they are still competitive. I use their Treasury only MM f...

Re: TBills as "the best horse at the glue factory?"

I did what dualstow did: 3 month autorolled T bills in my Fidelity investment account, in 3 aliquots roughly 1 month apart. Figuring I'll add to it as new cash comes in. Sophie, it's good to hear from you! I hope you don't mind a question: do you buy T bills on the secondary market or at the auctio...

Re: 2nd asset in tax deferred?

It's a self employed 401k, so I can buy anything you normally could with a Fidelity account. I also have an inherited IRA that I must withdraw within 10 years. That's awesome! You can also consider gold ETFs, I personally use SGOL as it has probably the lowest ER and the gold is based in Switzerlan...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

Excerpt from Glenn Greenwald's article today on censorship & propaganda in this war. I don't have a link, it's on Substack though. I just get an email with no link. On one hand, I get the de-platforming of RT News and Sputnik. But on the other, it feels sinister. If one wishes to be exposed to ...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

I wish Biden would call up Zelinsky and tell him to end the war. 72 hours later it would be over (IMHO). But the US and Europe would have to eat some crow. Give up some regions, reverse sanctions, return seized stuff. Shake Putins hand, retract war criminal statements, remove Ukraine from considera...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

Apologies of someone has mentioned this already. I feel like we are accelerating the death of a golden goose (reserve currency status). Russia, India, China, ASEAN countries, Saudi Arabia. Not sure if any of these countries will really need us in a few years. The US and Europe are losing their prod...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

… I had much more to say, but will keep that for other posts if we talk about more specific topics. I'm open to questions. One question I’d like to ask: do you lean more toward the notion that Russians are suffering defeat or that this is just a brief setback and that they are going to “turn up the...

What a fascinating post, Foglifter! If my post knocks the thread to a new page, I'll copy your post in its entirety so it's that the top. Some of the things you mentioned have been covered, like the Oliver Stone Ukraine on Fire film and some of the NATO stuff, but it's great to hear about your pers...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

I wanted to write this post for a long time. The first couple weeks after the war started had been hard as I tried to consume tons of information from all kinds of sources and figure out for myself what was going on. It came to the point that my wife insisted that I stop and take a break from the ne...

Re: Gundlach on LTT's today

I did buy some edv today that's the one! The ER is lower than TLT. But I don't keep a full 25% of EDV, only 18ish% because its like a leveraged TLT I'm using FBNGX (ER = 0.03%). I know, it's not exactly TLT as the portfolio has a tad of ITTs, however performance and risk are almost identical.

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

I Need to understand more about the Coup that overthrew the democratically elected Ukrainian government that I believe had good relations with Russia. Was there a coup? I don’t remember one except the one in Russia- well, the Soviet Union. The Soviets did poison a Ukrainian leader. Looking at wikip...

It's extremely rare, but possible - Peter Thiel's IRA is a good example. ;D

Tax-deferred space is limited and precious, I agree that it doesn't make sense to use it for cash. Since this is a 401k I bet your choices are limited, so stocks would be a natural (if not the only) option.

+1 for Alliant card. In the past I used Fidelity Rewards and Citi Double Cash cards, but now switched completely to the Alliant card. It was an easy move for me as Alliant is my primary banking institution. It really seems as if Alliant has done some good research and listened to their customers. Th...

I want to stay the course, but I'm confused and alarmed after reading all the numerous posts on the topic. I don't want to make any changes to my bond bucket, but at the same time I don't want to be oblivious to the risks. I hate that staying the course can now be seen as failing to adapt while the...
