Re: Abortion and 19th Century Science

How does legal abortion make the world a better place?  And better for whom? I'm sorry Desert, but I'm trying to extricate myself from this. No offense. I couldn't resist answering AdamA's question, but that's it. My guess is that you're already well-informed about the other side of the debate. Eco...

Re: Abortion and 19th Century Science

You compare legal abortion to the behavior of a war criminal and add insult to injury with an "apology" wrapped up in twisted logic. I don't agree with him either, Dualstow, but isn't this (the idea that abortion is never acceptable) the logical conclusion of the "abortion is murder&...

Gold stocks appear to have bottomed! Hold on there, Paul Revere.  :) I mean I hope you're right b/c I'm down a lot in them. But, do you remember when you said "Here comes GDX, right on schedule." At least I think it was GDX. In any case, it was several months ago and it didn't last. Let's...

Perhaps we should rename "abortion" and "womens rights" to what it really is.  Something like "Mother chooses death for her child", or more realistically, "Procedure to kill unwanted humans" or "My right to party superceeds your right to live".  Whe...

So you mean assisted suicide, not euthanasia. Right?

I don't see the enslavement angle either, PS. However, I think your term "socially acceptable murder" aptly describes my view of it. For comparison, some animal rights activists see the killing of animals as murder, although we have created that word to separate our species from the rest o...

Re: PRPFX has lost 8 billion in assets

In any case, I've gotten the impression for a while that VBS is very different from Vanguard as a whole. They seem like very separate entities with different ways of doing things. This comes up once in a while at Bogleheads. Things seemed smoother when Pershing was their clearinghouse. Yay! A small...

on this topic as it could be a hot one.
Y'think?  ;)

If this were a poll, I would state that I'm strongly in favor of the abortion choice. However, I don't think I have the energy to debate about it. Plus, I think I already did the last time around.

I'll be reading with interest.

Re: PRPFX has lost 8 billion in assets

Frankly, I think it's more likely that the delay here is on the PRPFX end - they have a HUGE incentive to delay paying dividends ... You may be right, Rick. It should also be mentioned that Vanguard has long had "back room problems" resulting in slow accounting. So, even if it does turn o...

I was at a party in 2012 or '13 with two Fidelity reps in attendance. They were pretty open and honest about everything. Of course they'd had four beers each. Vanguard brokerage informed me yesterday that they had received an internal memo stating that the PRPFX distribution would be paid within 3-5 business days from yesterday. It sure seems that they are doing some irregular things at their end. Quite surprising! Their reply to me was a bit different. ...

I just got an ad from NativeUnion (I have their Pop phone) touting their JUMP cable on quickstarter. I assume that they got some kind of licensing from Apple or they'd be wasting their time. Should I also assume that it has copy protection, hardware authentication etc built in?

Jonah Hill was hilarious as always. Otherwise, I felt like it was one more Goodfellas . That's not to say it was bad. It's just that I've seen too many movies with this formula, or at least of this genre. I thought Goodfellas was a better movie because it's plot and script seemed more robust.  Wolf...

Re: Rand Paul to lead class action lawsuit against Obama over NSA spying

Some degree of NSA spying is unfortunately necessary because of the enemies that we face. There has to be a happy medium. My suggestion would be for the government to have complete and total freedom to do whatever it wanted to do, so long as it only exercised powers granted to it under the Constitu...
