Re: Baseball?
Talking baseball trades on an avatar thread! Bad decorum? Branch Rickey, I believe, once said a trade needed 2 years to see who benefited. Rickey also said "luck is the residue of design." Something here for the software engineers? As a Yankee fan, Jay Buhner gives me another reason to thi...

Re: Trains?
Denver to Sacramento- and the return were fun. We just got Denver to Salt Lake City cancelled. We would be in Denver today. A good Amtrak route is worth it and we were not horribly delayed. There are views not seen from a car. Europe trains are great, too. Investing? When the Interstate highways par...

Re: Atlas Shrugged Book
Would the Well-Read on this forum provide lists of must-read books? Actually, not really a question.
Let's assume we've all read Craig and Jim's book.
Having gone through Harry Browne, Jean Shepherd (The Christmas Story guy), Twain, Michener, Uris, Wouk, and Steinbeck, I need more.
Thanks.

Re: Atlas Shrugged Book
I read 30+ pages per night for over 30 night. Worth it. "Fountain Head" is ok. Gary Cooper did the movie. I used the same approach to Shogun but the book wasn't for me. I guess I should appreciate Shogun more for its possibilities in historical fiction. You might send a PM to I Shrugged.

Re: The Bond Dream Room
Maybe this current interest rate increase leads to a significant increase in the prices of LTTs. This could be the first swoon in one of Harry's 4 categories for me... but maybe not. This ain't dull.

Re: The Bond Dream Room
Could somebody or many of you comment on the bond structure collapsing. All those unpaid bonds and interest payments missed might manifest as deflation. Kinda reminds me of 1929-1932. Interest rates did spike in 1930 as bankers only wanted to lend to the best borrowers; the bankers then found out th...

Re: Baseball?
Vinny, I am amazed that with our appreciation of baseball history and Yankee history- what other sports club has a history- that we have opposing views on the broadcasting. I have turned the sound off, at times. Anyway.... Great having you around and I envy your reading ability, speed and comprehens...

Vinny,
Curious that we have opposing thoughts on Mushnick. I find him to be a breath of fresh air, especially when he blasts the Yankee announcers.
I would spend billions to buy the team merely to bring in new announcers. Although, Ken Singleton can stay forever.

Re: Football!!!
Referring to Pug's comment about receivers who can actually catch the ball, Dick Young, sports columnist for New York Daily news, wrote the following 30 to 40 years ago: Regarding the complaints of Giants fans having Pepsi, etc., dumped on them by unruly fans above, Young said the dumpers are not un...

Yeah, lame-o post and oversight. Maybe I should switch from "bedraggled" to "Confused & Forgetful." Too long?
Anyway, then, explain why the Giants gave his number "10" to Eli Manning, please.

Can anyone explain why Fran Tarkenton is not in the Football Hall of Fame?
They gave his number, 10, to Eli Manning. An insult? Not sure.
Fran The Man also did one of the best SNL hosting jobs, back in the 70s. His shaving cream commercials were excellent, too.

I was thinking of "launch angle" angle today. I am retired but it wasn't on the to do list. Seems if these "hitters don't get the perfect 2 strike pitch to launch it to the next county, they take it for strike three. This is baseball? No DH discussion today, lads and lasses. Let's mov...

Kriegs, Excellent comment about linebackers and F-16s. Refrigerator Perry of the Chicago Bears isn't worth mentioning now. I heard said the 1968 Packers Super Bowl offensive and defensive linemen would be considered a bunch of runts today: 245 pounds!?!? Egad! Question: orthopedically speaking, do t...

Re: Baseball?
Steroids prevents me from moving beyond Aaron. I watched the Yankees with Clemens and Giambi. Two guys who are a poor memory in the sport. Aaron did need 2,000 more ABs and an extra 8 games per season to go after Ruth. I did see Aaron hit back-to-back HRs at Shea Stadium, 7/8/73, against pitcher Ste...

Re: All HAIL Dualstow!!!!
Vinny,
You could crown DS the Hank Aaron of the forum. At 755 homeruns, he had more than Ruth. Aaron did it with 2,000 more at bats, though. If you wish to discuss pitching and fielding, this should move to the baseball thread.

Yesterday 4/21, Jim Cramer on Mad Money discussed the charting/technical analysis work of Larry Williams. Cramer said Larry is one of the best. Williams applied his charting to the virus and found down channels in each nation, from South Korea to Iran. He determined down channels in every nation exa...

Mountaineer, Thanks for your response. Your mention of the Roaring 20s and its proximity to the Spanish Flu is great and, maybe instructive for this group. I would really appreciate more ideas on travel as I like Florida but i wish to go away more now than when I lived in Manhattan. Manhattan is lik...

Do check Moda's Thomas Paine quote in his member info. The quote, and the idea behind the quote should add spice to this broth. Might make a hearty stew. Henry George's thoughts may apply.

International Travel?
I like to cross an ocean 3 times a year and spend 60 days on trains combined with modestly priced lodgings.
Any thoughts on when/if this opportunity might return?
And do you think plane fares will become exorbitant?
Thanks.
