Re: The Bond Dream Room
Zero lower bound. Stocks can go to infinity w/inflation, bonds cant. How has a Japanese version of EDV done, when 30yr rates can only move between 0% and .5%

Re: What makes some microbes cause transient sickness while others become a permanent part of our bodily ecology?
You could say cold/flu is part of the human herd genome, and like cancer, its so much like us that the immune system has trouble distinguishing it. It'll get worse every year because the population is aging. Even stranger is self/non self with consciousness. Are you the same person you were 10 years...

Protests over the 08 bailout in NY. Cant do that now can ya

Last year: H3N2 overwhelms hospitals.
I'm on board with this theater if it musters the political will to move the homeless into a zoo.

Re: Coronavirus Conspiracy Theories
Deep State/Fourth Estate grabbed Trumpy by the p** He cant call it overhyped, and has to concede everything to end the recession before election. Whats happening with his tariffs? Best part is, his supporters (more inclined to be paranoid) prefer the narrative that this cold virus will end the world

Re: The Bond Dream Room
Only the Fed would buy long bonds with negative rates. When does it make sense to underweight them in the PP?

Looks like I fell for the narrative that you can get a deal on downgraded investment grade bonds because institutions are forced to sell them. I bought FALN, this chart is performance since launch. Trounced by stocks and Vanguard's junk fund. Any reason to keep? Any scenarios where it could outperfo...

So the Fed was accurately reporting inflation through the 60s-80s? Then they cranked up rates...so they did everything right?

Re: PP vs Dividend Growth Investing
Non profits can hire extra administrators and pay them exorbitant salaries.
Xan your not wrong, net profit expectations are part of the equation to value a company. The word "dividend" is narrowly defined as a forced quarterly withdrawal. It's not always a good thing.

"Today the world’s gold stock is about 170,000 metric tons. If all of this gold were melded together, it would form a cube of about 68 feet per side. (Picture it fitting comfortably within a baseball infield.) At $1,750 per ounce – gold’s price as I write this – its value would be $9.6 trillion...

This is not sustainable forever obviously. Why not. plz be concrete - what specific businesses are getting billions of new money in the repo market and what are they buying with it.Why does the Fed have to intervene as opposed to letting the market set the rate. eg I'd loan to the repo market for 1...

Why then does the Fed need to buy bonds from the treasury (indirectly) . They should be able to sell off their balance sheet to all these global bond-hungry investors

In 50 years robots will farm, build houses and cars, and fight wars. Millions out of work, meanwhile the population will be older and nursing homes 30k/month. We need more doctors to bring that cost down. I'm skeptical the AMA is allowing the maximum number of qualified people through. A bit off-top...

Re: Coffee Can Portfolio
Total market funds dont trade. If you randomly pick a basket of stocks you get a value tilt because you dont get seduced by growth stories. Now that everyones talking about value, dunno if it'll continue to outperform.
