Re: Poll: Have You Thought Of Leaving Forum Because Of Politics?
People are banned all the time on Internet forums. I don't think my comment was controversial. I wasn't referring to a specific person that I thought should be banned, so I apologize if it came across that way. Group A wants people to have freedom to choose their actions and take responsibility for...

Re: Poll: Have You Thought Of Leaving Forum Because Of Politics?
To be fair, I agree the Bogleheads forum is ridiculous. I'm not suggesting that. These are not binary choices. It doesn't have to be one or the other. There is a WIDE gap in between the two. I find your statement to be apropos to the political discourse libertarians have with leftists. Whereby libe...

Re: I Think This Forum Should Stick To Investing
I agree the forum is being split in two directions and I vote we get rid of the finance and investing talk and focus on the politics. Politics is interesting and dynamically changing while the PP has been the same for 20+ years. How hard is the permanent portfolio, really? The whole point is that i...

if something "somebody posted on the internet" is getting you riled up.. take a minute or a day... consider your reply and avoid feeding the drama.. Yes obviously we can just avoid the discussions related to politics. +1 for personal responsibility. Frankly, I'll probably stick around no matter wha...

Re: I Think This Forum Should Stick To Investing
Maybe the answer is to warn/temporarily-ban/permanently-ban the abrasive people. Or, to chose to not engage with those you believe fall into that category. Fires don't keep going without burning material, correct? I totally agree with you from a personal responsibility perspective! And Libertarian6...

Re: I Think This Forum Should Stick To Investing
The political drama has poisoned this forum. We have lost tons of members because of it. It has put us all at each others throats and divided us into groups. I don't think the politics belongs here. I think that if politics stay, eventually it will be the death of this forum. Absolutely. No one is ...

Re: Winkelvoss Capital says Bitcoin is a 10x better inflation hedge than gold
Men working to start a bitcoin ETF promote bitcoin. I don't completely dismiss Bitcoin as an upstart alternative currency. But I will say that if the only points in the section "the problem with gold" are asteroids and the third-best Die Hard, then I'm not too worried about gold in my lifetime. I t...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're talking as though cash is a fixed variable against which the other three assets move. In recent years, due mostly to zero or near zero interest rate policies, this may indeed have been the case for practical purposes. But in principle, the Permanent Portfo...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
It's all relative. We only care about the 3 major assets being correlated/uncorrelated (stocks, bonds, gold).
How can you measure their correlation to the value of cash when they are measured by cash?

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
Well I suppose the act of re-balancing forces you to sell the expensive asset(s) that have run up in price and buy the inexpensive asset(s) that is probably out of favor. Unless of course, all of the assets are moving up together which has happened before, in which case you would not be re-balancin...

Re: Stay cool...
Hi pp4me, By opportunistic rebalancing, I meant I hit a rebalancing band (15/35) during the crash for stocks on the low side since they crashed so harshly (almost -35%). Completely mechanical but it requires paying attention to your portfolio balances, especially during times of high volatility. No ...

Hi Craig! Thank you again for your site and book.
YTD results are even better than shown on ETF Replay due to an opportunistic rebalance during the crash . PP is feeling pretty bulletproof.

Aren't low rates just the result of asset price inflation -> the same that has been seen in stocks, gold, real estate, etc.? Why should the bond bull market be over but bull markets?
