Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
What is the rationale for compressing the time over which food is consumed? This would seem to run directly counter to the idea that eating very small amounts of food continually throughout the day ("grazing") tends to keep blood glucose levels from spiking. "run directly counter to ...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
Maddy, Well I'm not female, but the other 3 people I know who've lost weight on gynostemma are, so you should be fine. A quick search on intermittent fasting reveals that male and female bodies deal with any kind of periods without food very differently. Women's bodies are designed to protect reprod...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
Maddy, I think you'll be happy with the gynostemma. If you can what I would also do each day is to go without food for 12 hours i.e. not eat after dinner and not have b'fast for 12 hours. 14 hours is better and 16 best. With 16 hours without food you are consuming all your food each day in an 8 hour...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
Maddy, So you have diabetes? Are you already taking metformin, because there is at least some overlap in mechanism e.g. both increase AMPK if you look at table I posted in the other thread. Thinking about type II diabetes as an autoimmune disease strikes me as misleading. What are they going to do, ...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
The only caveats I'd mention are: 1. based on how it may work (AMPK) it might not be effective/as effective for 20 or 30 year olds as it does for those of us over 40. 2. I'd be careful if you already have an autoimmune disease as it "strengthens the immune system" and might worsen things. ...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
Mark, Puts a new perspective on it when you put it that way. Good point. I hope you're keeping your iron levels down though. I'm starting to give blood regularly. For the newcomers higher levels of iron (ferritin is one good blood test) have been linked to all sorts of diseases and regularly giving ...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
OT Mark, I have a question. Assuming saturated fat does not "cause" heart disease, I can't see how you escape the fact of arachadonic acid increasing inflammation. And inflammation increases and becomes a problem as one gets older. Personally I'm eating red meat once a week or so, some ani...

Re: Double blind study gynostemma produces weight loss
Maddy, It makes sense. I have no idea if it would actually work that way i practice. None of the 4 people I know of used very low carb diets. If very low carb works well for you/the people you know then by all means use them. By all means anyone interested in losing weight should avoid simple sugars...

Re: Help get me reduce some weight
Maddy, Gynostemma : There are probably a lot of fine options, but I tend to be picky. My bias is to always buy e.g. chinese herbs from chinese herbal companies. I'm also used to buying powdered extracts and taking in warm water (gynostemma taste isn't that strong). However the company I use has been...

Re: Help get me reduce some weight
Maddy, 1. "Okay, now you've got me confused. I have been reading that you want to reduce the weight (particularly the fat around the middle) in order to increase insulin sensitivity (i.e., reverse insulin resistance). But your post would suggest that increasing insulin sensitivity promotes weig...

Re: Help get me reduce some weight
As we get older (40-50 or more) our body's become less insulin sensitive. https://joshmitteldorf.scienceblog.com/2015/10/13/can-botanicals-replace-metformin/ You can take metformin, but I've had good luck with Gymnostemma (works via AMPK): https://examine.com/supplements/gynostemma-pentaphyllum/ The...

Re: Help get me reduce some weight
Get enough sleep/rest. If you can try not to eat after dinner. Try to go at least 12 hours between dinner and b'fast. 14 (or 16) hours is even better and starts getting into forms of intermittent fasting which many but not all find helpful. Avoid foods with added sugar and avoid junk. Use whatever d...

Re: "On days like this there are no Republicans and Democrats"
The issue of gun control is the least of the problems right now.
The fact that too many on the left see Rs as deplorable (or far worse) and are in favor of using violence is a bigger problem.

Re: Chilling Threat of Violence in Portland
It is interesting, and sad, to see some on the left implementing exactly what they feared from some on the right. It is expected that the left is doing what they accuse the right of. This happens all over the place. Using violence to help stop "fascist speech" is just so typical. Not you ...

So I'm not sure why he should be believed now. Your biases (understandable and mostly correct as far as I can tell) apply to politicians of which Trump ain't one.
