Re: goldmoney - cash holding - any thoughts?

I think it's a bad idea.  When your money is in their bank, it is subject to credit risk.  If you have your money with Gold Money, keep it in gold.  If you have it in cash, US Treasuries are really the only way to go.

Thrift Savings Plan

Is anyone familiar with Thrift Savings Plan for federal employees?

I use it for a portion of my portfolio.  From what I've read it's pretty safe and also low expense.  Just curious if anyone on this site knows anything about it...

Thanks,

Re: Where/How to Start

SuperNoob-- I'm fairly new to this as well, but have a couple of thoughts. 1.  I don't really like the Wells Fargo cash fund that you have.  You want short-term treasuries, not debt from insurance companies.  You are introducing unnecessary credit risk with this fund. My advice would be to dump this...

Re: Rebalancing Deficit

The thing is...I do make pretty heavy contributions (relative to the size of the portfolio)...but I guess you're right...best just to deal with this stuff as best as possible as it comes it up.

Thanks for the info.

Re: What's up with GTU?

Any guess as to how the CAGR would differ using GTU versus GLD?  How about in a tax-deferred account versus a taxable account?

Thanks (Again),

Re: What's up with GTU?

I've read a few posts on this, but still don't quite understand...

Can someone explain (in very elementary terms) how GTU's premium to NAV will effect the performance of the fund, and how it effects my portfolio when I rebalance?

Thanks,
Adam

Rebalancing Deficit

All-- I have a roth IRA and a 401K.  The 401k has a great low cost S&P index fund, and even a good short term treasury fund, and the roth is good for gold and long bonds.  Problem is, when one fund outperforms there's no way I can see to move money to the other.  The only thing I can think of is...

Re: Total Stock vs. Small Cap Value/Emerging Split

Does anyone think it may be worth it to replace an S&P or total market index with either a growth or value index?  I know HB's original rec was for a growth fund...right?
