Re: My Latest Research on the PP's Big Fat Flaw aka Achilles' Heel

I'm sitting at 19% gold after doing my yearly checkup in February and this post confirms my instincts to stay lazy and not tinker too much. Will probably buy a little gold mid-year.

But if we were in another period of gold doing well would we be having this conversation? I suspect not.

Re: Body Status Tracking

At home, blood pressure and blood sugar are no-brainers. Take your blood pressure morning and night. Test your fasting and 2-hr post meal (your highest carb meal) blood sugar once per week. Do it every day if you want, but the test strips aren't necessarily cheap. Obviously watch for trends and don...

Re: Hillary's platform?

Hillary will resist as long as possible having anything resembling a "platform" wherein she actually has to express what she actually believes about any thing. Better to just spend the time with photo opportunities showing how she relates to "every day people" like you and me. An...

Re: Compassion in a free society

I worked hard.  I should eat filet mignon and drink premiere cru wine.  You?  You can do the same if you work hard like me.  If you don't, it's only natural that you should eat shit and die. Sounds like a psychopath to me. I'm not saying that all libertarians are psychopaths, but I'd guess that mor...

Re: Property Rights - Conscience

Honestly, I feel like this whole thing is simply a religiously-themed cover-up for people who feel like gays are icky and don't want to be near them, not any kind of actual genuinely religious reason. Show me where in the Bible that it tells us to avoid and shun homosexuals. Where's that passage? A...

Re: Property Rights - Conscience

Perhaps the underlying issue is people do not like being forced to do something they do not want to do for whatever reason.  Would we have a better "society" if, instead of a homosexual wanting laws that force someone to bake a cake for their same-sex wedding, they instead just came up wi...

Re: Examine.com 4 superfoods you should be eating

My dad died at the age of 94 last year so perhaps he can shed some anecdotal evidence on what foods are "super" based on his longevity. His favorite dinner was fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy. For breakfast he liked fried eggs, bacon, and toast which he had nearly every mornin...

Re: Bowe Berghdal

It makes sense to me. The entity doing the punishing is their employer. William Calley did his job, maybe just a little too well. Bergdahl didn't do his job. :P Bergdahl may well serve as the private Eddie Slovak of the war on terror. The latter was the only soldier executed for desertion during WW...

Bowe Berghdal

Been hearing extremely negative opinions all day about Mr. Berghdal, from co-workers, talking heads and interviewees on Fox News. The mildest sentiment seems to be that he ought to at least spend the rest of his life in prison. Some, including a co-worker and whoever was filling in for Bill O'Reilly...

Given that none of the links to examples actually work I'd have to agree it's probably a joke. If not, it doesn't speak well of feminist programming.

Re: Fox News is the most trusted national news channel

At one time Fox News was like a breath of fresh when all you had was CNN and the rest of the liberal media marching in lockstep. They've grown just as stale to me over the years however. No need to tune in any more because what the talking heads have to say about any issue has become absolutely pred...

McKittrick Canyon is really nice!  I liked Guadalupe Peak a lot also.  I hiked up there on three different occasions, and I'd like to get back there one day.  Did you ever make it to Marfa? Don't recall driving through Marfa but I did hike to the top of Guadalupe Peak and spent a windy night in a t...

Re: US Nuclear Target Map

I love Big Bend.  In our pre-children days, the wife and I camped up in Chisos Basin for a few days.  I love the wide open spaces. Almost burnt the place down once while camping on top of the Chisos. Dug a hole to burn some used toilet paper instead of packing it and carrying it out like you were s...

Re: Is Intermittent Fasting Good For You?

After watching the PBS show by Michael Mosley, I started the intermittent fasting diet and have been at it for about a year and a half now, consuming no more than about 500 calories two days a week.  That show implied that on your non-fasting days you could eat pretty much whatever you wanted but I ...

If you go with a cheap laptop, for goodness sakes get one with Linux on it. A couple of years ago, the hard drive on my daughter's laptop went bad and I had to replace it. I tried using the Windows recovery disk on the new one but it told me it wasn't allowed since the drive didn't exactly match th...

Re: Greece Confiscates Pension Funds to Pay Debts...

Bullshit.  The politicians will never punish the rich because they're owned (R and D) by the rich. For example, rather than confiscate private pension funds (which I think is obviously a non-starter) lets talk about imposing means tests on Social Security.  I mean really, Warren Buffett draws the s...

Re: Best 2016 Election Matchups

It seems like every election cycle we see some new and interesting candidates rise up early only to fade into oblivion leaving us with nothing but the old establishment retreads when all is said and done. The Democrats finally broke out of that mold in 2008 with Barack Obama but I tend to think that...

Re: Can evolution explain objective morality?

To me it seems obvious from even the brief slice of recorded history available to us that morality evolves on its own without a law giver and that this is a good and necessary thing for the survival of the species. For a modern example of a whole people rejecting subjective morality and adhering str...

Re: On the Perils of Being an Evil Capitalist

FICO is still the gold standard for lending decisions.  The others are just marketing fiction schemes invented by the credit bureaus, though the P2P lending portals may be using them. When I acquired my last mortgage, the broker told me the credit scores were nothing but a marketing scheme and a jo...

madbean, I'm curious... What are the sorts of things that increase / decrease one's credit score? There isn't actually one single model that is used for all credit scores so it's impossible  to say exactly what will affect it and you may have noticed that the credit bureaus only explain it in vague...

I'm still pissed at Bank of America for suddenly cancelling a credit card I had since 1989 due to inactivity.  That dinged a chunk. I have a Chase Mastercard that I only keep in the off chance that I might need it, so to keep it active I set up an automatic payment for the full balance from my bank...

Re: Shorter Term Instead of LT Bonds?

Interest rates have been declining over the past 30-years.  The LT Treasury component of the PP has performed very well in a declining interest rate environment.  But with the Fed edging toward increasing rates in the not-too-distant future, should we consider alternatives to LT Treasuries? If you ...

No.

End of story.
