I remember some back testing suggesting that adding funds equally in dollars rather than to the lagging asset first seemed to have better returns.
I would have hit a rebalancing band in March/April lows had I been doing that.
Is this an ok approach, and can anyone point me to the proof?

Re: Bitcoin - they coming for you
he fact that there are so many competing cryptos and barrier to entry is so low makes it all the more confusing. Bitcoin is open source, you could personally clone it and launch a new version tomorrow. What you're missing is the value of network effect. The users add to the value, which brings in m...

Re: Talk on the PP
This boob had to look to Wikipedia for what the PP actually is, meaning he doesn’t understand it and can’t have a properly formed opinion. Here’s the thing, the PP is based on principles yet financial advisors invest based on circumstance. A circumstance-based investor can’t comprehend a principle b...

Re: Bonds and the PP -- still make sense?
I hate LTT, but you’ve gotta go all in on the PP for it to work.
What I’ve done is to take the other side, creating a variable portfolio with some extra silver/gold in it. The PP is untouched.

Re: Funds or etfs for Stocks
One other factor you might want to consider is that your settlement period will probably different as well. For example, let's say there is a sudden major market correction and you need to re-balance some assets. The recent lock-downs are a perfect example when the market was swishing +/- 10% daily...

Well, crap. Is this like a sell your mutual funds for etfs thing or just only buy etfs from here out? The capital gains would be crazy for me.

Funds or etfs for Stocks
I’ve had Fskax in a taxable at fidelity for years. I’m just hearing about better tax management for ETF. I don’t understand, I thought owning the fund directly was the preferred method?

And how's this for interesting timing? Your post arrived in my in box just a few hours after this one from Chris Mamula over at "Can I Retire Yet?" about his process of looking into adding gold to his portfolio. Porfolio Charts is prominently mentioned in the article and you'll note that ...

Would you start a PP for a 6 year old?
I've got two kids, 5 and 6. I want to start an investment count for each of them. Obviously the PP is conservative, but as they grow it will teach them all of the benefits of predictable returns with low volatility. Seeing how they may use this money to start a business when they are 15, wouldn't in...

I've been looking to transfer from PP to GB for a while now. It may be time to start that process while rebalancing.

Re: % of Funds in Retirement Accounts VS Taxable
We have an LLC S-corp and can adjust our salary a bit to avoid SS tax. Right now it's higher than needed - so we pay more SS tax but can move more to the 401k. I don't know how to calculate if that's work it though.

% of Funds in Retirement Accounts VS Taxable
Thinking of poising my 401k contributions -
Is there a ratio that is commonly suggest for retirement accounts vs taxable? I know that a mixture gives you flexibility, but I'm unsure about what's right. At the moment I'm 25% 401k and 75% taxable.

How to know the Intraday value of funds for rebalancing
During volatile periods how do we calculate the intraday value of stock fund rebalancing? I own the Fidelity FSKAX fund and if I rebalanced today I'd be pricing it 8% higher than the market price because it only calculates at the EOD. How does that even work with purchases, and would I buy buying at...

At some point this grand Permanent Portfolio thinking process will be over and I can then move my thinking focus elsewhere. Re: Is cash really 2nd after bonds for retirement accounts?
You could consider using your Roth IRA or HSA instead, I've been using series I savings bonds effectively as an extra, free tax-deferred retirement account. Plus if you need the cash, you don't have wait until you're 59.5 to get at it. (disadvantage: you probably don't want to be rebalancing out of...

Is cash really 2nd after bonds for retirement accounts?
I've finally funded my 401k to the point that I have to consider what to buy after bonds I know that HB says cash, but in today's environment? The Fidelity TSM yields 1.7% and the 1 year t-bill is 1.55%. Also, wouldn't the potential gains from the stocks be better inside of a tax advantaged amount a...

Re: New Member and Permanent Portfolio Novice. Asking for help
Ask yourself if you'd buy those stocks today at their current prices. Sell the ones that you wouldn't and then give a time frame to cut the others. You'll be rebuying several of them inside of the PP anyway with the Stocks portion of the portfolio. I was in this same situation just a few years ago. ...

Just to follow up on this - I sold off about 350k of the PP to help purchase our other house cash. The locked in the 4% interest payment per we would have paid carrying a mortgage until the other house sold, and also saved about 2.5k in closing. The old house quickly though, so the better decision w...
