Re: Protection against a sharp drop

Inflation seems to be picking up too. That pricing power can't come about without a corresponding increase in purchasing power. I think, if I had to hazard a guess, that this is where we could disagree. But my personal experience is what informs my opinion. As a small businessman, even if I wanted ...

Re: Affordable Care Act Woes (Obamacare)

@ PS It sounds like a positive feedback loop leading to higher prices over time.  As more out-of-pocket consumers get priced out, we hear more talk of socialized medicine, of which ACA is the beginning. It was probably gov't regulations that got the whole thing started.  Do you think the price of a...

He talked about it in the state of the union and the next day created it by executive order.  Basically low income, non-Government employee access to the G-Fund in the thrift savings plan.

Re: Carrying physical gold out of the country

Good point. Even if you got the coins out of the U.S. it would only be half the battle. You also need to get them into another country. Been there, done that with other things. So, assuming that carrying the coins on your person is not a good idea are there any other suggestions for how to physical...

Got to pitch sovereigns.  Durable, recognized, small premium, and a smaller denomination of gold weight.

Why not diversify your gold holdings with maples and ealgles?  I buy low premium slabbed gaudens every chance I can get, it really brings out my gold buggery.

Deep Cash - Intermediate Bonds

Thoughts on extending the duration of deep cash, to juice a little extra yield?

For example my cash portion would be:

15% TBills
5% IBonds
5% ~5 year Bond Fund

This should give me more than enough for a rebalancing event, extra yield, and not a dramatic increase in volatility.

I can't remember where I heard it but the major moves in December and January have something to do with institutional/hedge fund investors moving in and out of stuff around Jan. 1 for some sort of tax benefit.

Feels pointless speculating on who is running. Obama proved you can become president in roughly a 4 year period start to finish.  The icing on the cake is he had zero experience in private industry, almost no political track record, and a obsure past. Perfect recipe IMO to lead the free world into a...

Actually, Melveyr has shown that you can swap out the 25% cash and 25% LTT for 50% 10 year treasuries. So yes, if you dump the cash allocation as well, you can essentially have a portfolio that is very close to 4x25 that is 25/25/50  stock/gold/10 yr treasuries. Returns over the long run were simil...
