Interesting. See comments to the following article. Its kinda hard to argue with his reasoning.

Re: Texas Bullion Depository is the Best Way to Protect Your Gold
FarmerD, full.disclosure please. Not sure if you're serious but I have no financial interest in any company connected with the depository. I had made several inquiries into storing gold in a safe deposit box in the Singapore Freeport but the more I researched the legal aspects of a state run gold-b...

Re: Texas Bullion Depository is the Best Way to Protect Your Gold
I don’t think the IRS has ever said that allocated overseas gold is subject to those reporting laws. All I’ve seen is CYA advice offered by third parties. You don't have to file FBAR or FATCA if you directly own the gold in a safe deposit box and nobody else can access it. However, Perth Mint can a...

Re: Texas Bullion Depository is the Best Way to Protect Your Gold
In a nutshell: States have constitutionally protected rights to create a gold backed currency. As such it’s extremely unlikely the Feds can seize the gold at the depository, force sale of gold at the depository to the Feds, and if challenged by Texas, it is likely they can’t enforce capital gains ta...

Re: Texas Bullion Depository is the Best Way to Protect Your Gold
It appears Texas is following the outline laid out by Dr Edwin Vieira, a constitutional law expert who has argued several cases before the Supreme Court. In the following videos (which are absolutely fascinating), Vieira describes his ideas on a state run gold-backed currency. 1. A state gold-backed...

Re: Texas Bullion Depository is the Best Way to Protect Your Gold
Sounds wonderful, every time I've looked at it, it's too costly compared to an insured safe deposit box. The cost for the Depository is 0.5% annually while the safe deposit box insurance is about 0.2% annually. Keep in mind however, the entire reason Harry Browne recommended geographic diversificat...

Texas Bullion Depository is the Best Way to Protect Your Gold
I'm going to argue the Texas Bullion Depository is a far better option than any other geographical diversification idea. The past few months I’ve done a deep dive on storing gold in the Texas Bullion Depository as well as the implications of creating a state gold-backed currency. Very few people und...

Re: TLT vs EDV vs ZROZ
I've used EDV for the past 8 years for all my long bonds. Keep in mind EDV is about 50% more volatile than TLT so you need less of it to balance out your stock holdings. Craig, Tex and others have discussed before so review the older posts in the bond section.

Coin Premiums Dropping Fast
You'd think with the recent rise in gold, coin premiums might be up. However, the opposite seems to be happening. I guess it's just supply and demand. For some reason people have stopped buying coins and inventories are bulging so coin sellers are dumping. Last week I bought some 1 oz Kangeroos at s...

Texas Bullion Depository Open for Business
Looks like the Texas Bullion Depository is up and running. They charge 0.5% yearly for segregated storage. Here's some information about the depository. The Texas Bullion Depository was designed to be different than other depository offerings from the very beginning. It was created to provide a safe...

Gold Eagle Premiums Falling
I've read the US Mint coin sales for silver Eagles and Gold eagles are at 10 year lows. That probably accounts for the big drop in premiums. For example, right now, Gainesville Coins has 1 oz Gold eagles on sale for $14.99 over spot. I've never seen a premium that low in the 10+ years I've followed ...

Sprott to acquire CEF
I saw today gold and silver were down today but CEF was up almost 3%. I figured something was up and apparently there is. Looks like Sprott is seeking to acquire the Central Fund of Canada much like they did to GTU recently. As of COB yesterday, CEF's price was 12.27 while it's NAV was listed as 13....

Okay, since everyone here knows I am a pug worshiper but also a dentist for 32 years, here are a few comments, with the disclaimer that I did not read any of the papers cited in the OP: Chlorhexidine is not "the mouthwash of choice" for most dentists or even periodontists [gum specialists...

Javanese Turmeric appears to have the strongest anticariogenic agent as shown in several recent studies. As one of the world’s most studied spices, turmeric’s effect on S. mutans has also been examined. When applied to slides prepared with S. mutans biofilms, Javanese turmeric demonstrated similar b...

Re: Radical New Approach to Oral Health
I expect that good old Listerine would probably do a better job killing oral bacteria than the natural methods listed. But to each his own. What about using Listerine or equivalent, waiting an hour, and then taking a liquid probiotic and swishing it around before swallowing? Chlorhexadine is still ...

Radical New Approach to Oral Health
I think the mainstream approach to oral health entirely misses the mark. I've come up with a radical new and hopefully better way to foster oral health. It has nothing to do with brushing, flossing, toothpaste, tongue scraping, mouthwashes, etc. It has everything to do changing your oral microbiome....

Re: Fake News
IMHO, it's best to assume that any organization claiming to be the final arbiter of the truth is almost certainly biased one way or another. I'd go even further. All organizations are biased in some way just like all people are biased too, All information you get emanates from some human source so ...

Re: Complete list of bullion?
Items such as the Chinese Panda, Australian Kangeroo, British Britannia, and the British Sovereign almost always carry a much higher buy/sell differential so I'd only buy those on the rare occasion when they are really marked down. Texas Precious Metals sells Australian Kangaroos for the same price...

I'd consider any coin with a buy/sell differential of 20-30 dollars an appropriate purchase. That would include: USA - Eagle USA - Buffalo (24 carat) Austria - philharmonic (24 carat) South Africa - Krugerrand Canada - Maple (24 carat) The Austrian 100 Corona and Mexican 50 Peso are the cheapest coi...

We used to talk a lot about how a fundamentally civilized society doesn't need a lot of governance, rules, or laws, and how the way to a libertarian nirvana is to start with a peaceful, cooperative, well-educated group of people and to aggressively keep out the barbarians. That's what this forum us...

Debate just over. I though Trump was unfocused and on the defensive for the most part. Of course the moderator kowtowed to Clinton by directing 3 tough questions to Trump that put him on the immediate defensive (his tax returns, the birther subject, and something about how great it is to have a woma...

Medical marijuana and cancer
Is marijuana hemp oil worth taking as a cancer treatment with or without chemo? Certainly there are no controlled clinical trials using it, only some interesting research and some anecdotal evidence of efficacy. Still, is it worth trying? Disclaimer: I'm talking CBD hemp oil which is legal in all 50...
