Re: Stocks and Bonds Decline
I see. I've got a solo 401(k) in which I can put in whatever I want, so there are some gold ETF shares in there. I do prefer coins in a safe deposit box. I should hurry up and buy more so I can repress all memory of the 4-5% markup for the rest of my life. ; - )

That's neat, but despite your subheadline after the dash I was hoping that this was going to be an automated gin mash machine.

Hi UgB. Welcome to the forum! Some non-portfolio stuff... To display an image in your post, simply bracket the link in "img" tags like this: D'oh! Doesn't seem to work with your image link! I don't know much about this stuff, but I usually assume a shortlink like t...

Re: Stocks and Bonds Decline
I have something similar to yours, Budd. A pp core that I don't tinker with, but a larger vp -- no gold in mine -- that means 8-10% gold in (vp +pp). The pp is becoming a larger % of the total, and maybe one day there will be no vp. Wow, you too?!! { img : you are doomed } LO...

There must be a term for financial independence + willfully not retiring. If not, we should coin one.

Re: Ting for Cell Phone Service (Potential Cost Saver)
There have been some articles about this trend by the way. The theme is, first they cut the cord and now some want to cut cellular. Of course not everyone can live on wi-fi alone. I didn't have a cell phone at all until a few years ago.

You have no landline that you could link Google Voice to, correct? Because I used that for long distance and it worked like a charm.
What about Skype Out?
I'm always leery of some of the super cheap options because for me the sound quality becomes an issue.

Re: Stocks and Bonds Decline
( quoting Buddtholomew ) 5% is hardly a PP, 10% is acceptable as I too only hold 1/10 of my portfolio in gold. (end quote) 10% is acceptable according to you, but is definitely not a PP. You either have a PP or you don't... That reminds me something I read or heard about a masturbation survey. Not...

I had a niece named Ting but I'm sticking w/ Virgin Mobile. I only pay $22 and change each month, including tax. Then again, I don't keep a data plan and don't go over my minutes, as I have a home phone.

Sugru
Has anyone used sugru to seal between tub and tile instead of traditional caulk? Since we just had the bathroom completely rebuilt, I got the contractor to caulk and he did it completely. However, whether because of the movement of the earth or changes in temperature or whatever, the sealant keeps c...

Re: What Drives Gold
Thanks for that, HB Reader. JI cracked opened the hardcover and read those few pages on gold again. I like the reminder that crises drive people to money , but that money can either be the dollar or gold. When inflation was 1 to 3% in the mid80s, Harry continues, Grenada and other crises didn't do m...

I will be "all in" when gold is $850. Not a moment sooner. If it even goes below $1000, I will be "more in". Right now, I'm at 11%. Rest evenly divided cash, stocks, bonds. Is that speculating? I carry a gun, is that speculating? What it is is a poor analogy. But, I am certainly...

There's one more option in San Francisco. A $6 bus with a juice bar. I saw it in the online news last night. What iwealth said.
Maybe gold is just taking a break from going down. And maybe that going down period will turn out to be taking a break from its journey to 2000. But, stocks and bonds have done smashingly well.

That's good insight, thank you.
I kind of knew this would be a Greg topic.
Hopefully, I'll be able to sleep in my future auto-automobile, knowing that it won't hit anything.
