Re: Could gold ever be banned again?
Gold does not have to be Banned directly. Gold can be manipulated out of existence from the masses. Through Taxes,Propaganda, given enough time, Gold is bad mantra will drive most people to give up their Gold Willingly. Sure, or it's a crappy form of money compared to more modern alternatives and t...

Re: The Bond Dream Room
If we assume nothing is the operative phrase here. The math is the math. Bond debates are stupid. Without fail they always end up with assumptions being made. There is one big difference. You chose to buy a long bond or an ETF. If you don't pay your mortgage you get kicked out of the house and they...

Re: Could gold ever be banned again?
My biggest argument for why gold won’t be banned...money has zero connection to gold anymore other than as a quote for it per oz. Not the case when there was an explicit connection between the two as in turn in the $20 bill get the equivalent in gold and vice versa.

Re: The Bond Dream Room
Why should I be buying EDV yielding 1.3% when I could pay down my 2% mortgage? potential capital gains .. look at TLT . .. yelds are tiny ... gains ytd and the last year are huge. interest on a mortgage is also on a declining balance getting less and less . in the last 6 months someone made more th...

For those who have data and can backtest the right momentum screen with the right index can be extremely profitable...at the cost of more volatility.

Re: Biden/Harris Discussion
I think Biden has enough public record that we know how he’s going to be and what kind of person he is. Someone looking for a moderate is likely to find it. He did lose a son in military service, that strongly suggests to me there is an ethic of public service and love of country in his family. I wo...

Still looking into the pros and cons. I’m kinda choking on the fact they are mostly negative yielding right now in nominal and real is even worse.

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
This is well known strategy and has been around for a long time. Things very similar are the basic strategy for annuities. It works pretty well when markets are moving and will lose money when markets are flat. It works way better when internet rates real and nominal are high. The bond component is ...

Just for Fun #2 - The Middle Kingdom
Midcaps are interesting and very similar to ITTs within their asset class. If you perform a rolling 10 analysis over different economic and interest rate regimes, it is clearly better to be in either Large/Small cap or LTT/STT, but the middle kingdom just gives you the in between result. 40% Midcap ...

Re: Tesla entering the SP 500
I've run a momentum stock system for several years and this year TSLA is my favorite stock followed by NVDA. Not sure why anyone on the board would care if Tesla is in the S&P 500. I assume everyone knows the S5 is the 500 largest cap stocks in America and the S5 is a cap weighted index. If you ...

Re: Question: Rebalancing - Dick and Jane Version.
Just for fun for those interested in more advanced rebalancing techniques. A basic strategy is to rebalance not at all (or very infrequently) when volatility is low and rebalance frequently when volatility is high. For those of you who follow my leveraged posts in the VP, this is basically why I am ...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
Many are (quite reasonably) down on LTTs right now. Can anyone shed any light on why the yield is so low, if these things are so unpopular? Isn't the market saying that the current price is fair? I mean, if it weren't, it would be something different, right? Xan, The market is doing what markets do...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
I think TIPS are good inflation hedges by definition, although I also think they're overrated because the tradeoff is accepting even lower yields than on nominal bonds. And personally, I think the most underrated inflation hedge is good old TBills . One of my favorite investment quotes is one you s...

To answer the question...it’s known as Californication in the west. People fleeing a jacked up state who then try to create what they fled somewhere else. It's known all over the country ^-^. Re: The death of nominal bonds? Implications for the PP?
Strongly considering adding some TIPS over time. Maybe just keep it simple LTTs and STTs/Cash by adjusting to 50% nominal bonds/50% TIPs...not like we are making huge amounts of interest or anything right now. Even simpler, just go with IT Ts/TIPS It's a compromise, but the Bridgewater argument I th...

Re: Question: Rebalancing - Dick and Jane Version.
There's really not a hard answer on this. The reality is the best way to rebalance is completely path dependent meaning it's a big "it depends." There are a couple of generalities that are useful. If in a taxable account, do what avoids/delays taxes as long as possible if that keeps you re...

RINOs care about Portland, conservatives believe its a local issue. RINOs think the military should be involved, conservatives know why it isn’t.

Re: Biden/Harris Discussion
We can argue this stuff all day, but I think a fairly good test for any politician is how well did they do in elections. Managed to beat a very unpopular Democratic nominee in the electoral college but lost the popular vote. Lost the Republican House majority in 2018, best guess is there will be few...

Kinda like we are talking about in another thread, with interest rates so low it’s a bit of a game changer. The only legit criticism now is it’s more volatile.

Re: My findings: Optimized PP Allocation 2020 (-Higher Sharpe Ratio, Sortino Ratio, Less Drawdown)
My guess is you don't quite understand how TIPS work. I would recommend you spend some time learning about them and you will then understand that in most respects they behave like other bonds...there is one difference but I will leave you to discover it. Hi Kbg, followed many of your posts for some...
