Re: Yay PP!
It’s clear that if someone were curious about the pp, they would have to dig deep to find posts that correspond with the principles in the book(s). This is exactly why (though I frequently recommend the PP to others for consideration) I never suggest this forum. I have no problem with Mathjak, but ...

Re: Gold ETFs old and new
I bought PHYS years ago and dislike it but I don't want to pay taxes to switch out of it. I guess I'm stuck. PHYS is a Trust & therefore isn't taxed at the Collectibles rate: it is taxed like any other ETF. For the PP, I've got all stocks and LTTs in the tax deferred accounts and SHY+IAU in a broke...

Re: Permanent Portfolio Failure?
Did the Permanent Portfolio fail in 2021? I ask this provocative question in order to generate some discussion. According to ETF Replay, the Permanent Portfolio generated a total return of 4.1% in 2021. That falls dramatically short of the S&P 500, which generated a total return of 28.7%; and falls...

According to the "2021 PP Returns" topic, the votes and replies should be more related to PP
Otherwise this poll is more "2021 Returns" for VP domain.

Re: The GOLD scream room
You may be on to something. After all, the performance of the PP was outsized for both 2020 and 2019 (over 16% both years), so maybe it is reasonable to expect some reversion to mean, the result being a lackluster year like we are seeing (1.77% YTD, my PP). This is exactly what I was thinking. We h...

Re: The GOLD scream room
I have been wondering the same thing and I do think that crypto is in fact eroding the value of gold. I have "added" some crypto to my PP and in this case would expect the portfolio do better this year. But it did worse. The year is not over yet and BTC is still expected to go 80k, 100k or... crash...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Great, me too. Where was gold though? Notice I don’t quibble about treasuries. Gold surged a little later, into late summer. Did it ever surge right away? It is uncorrelated asset. Whatever is happening right now just need to remember that the printing press is red hot ... all those stimulus money....
