I missed rebalancing last time on the wake of pandemics. Missed by 2-3% because I was sticking to 15/35% :-)

Re: The GOLD scream room
Hmm. This is now a good problem to have! Most of my gold is physical. How do I actually take advantage of this? Am I buying puts on GLD as a method of rebalancing? Mine is all IAU... Good, bad or ugly. But a bit easier to move around than physical. Well, while ETFs are still an option, till SHTF an...

Re: The GOLD scream room
My 4x25 HBPP gold is about 28%. Should I rebalance at 30% or wait for possible 35%, as 15/35% my rebalance bands. I'm in the same boat/been wondering the same thing. I wish I had rebalanced out of bonds right after the COVID market shift as some here did, so hoping to take advantage the volatility ...

Re: Yay PP!
Last post for ppnewbie. Run far away ppnewbie, the PP is a lifetime of disappointment. I was in Analytics/BI for 15 years at a Fortune 300 company so I understand your mental makeup. The agnostic nature of the portfolio sounds great on the surface but you lose to equities on the upside and there is...

Re: Yay PP!
PP hurting bad. Gold and LTT’s cannibalizing each other to the downside as rates rise. Sucks for sure. Budd, you never answered my question from a few days ago on when you got into the portfolio, and what your expectations were at that time? I setup a taxable PP in 2010. Took literally that one or ...

Re: Yay PP!
Golds turn to take a beating again. This portfolio can lose in countless ways. TLT up 1% but it lost 1.2% yesterday so blah. Budd Where did you get your PP info that has the portfolio performance being judged on daily results? I have the book Fail- Safe Investing and Harry suggests a yearly portfol...

Re: Yay PP!
If people are concerned about maintaining a clean, well-lit place to educate others about the PP, perhaps there should be a separate Permanent Portfolio Skepticism forum. E.g. every second when gold is down, the guy is screaming about it and about the portfolio. :-\ Budd is just trolling. In some w...

Re: Yay PP!
It’s clear that if someone were curious about the pp, they would have to dig deep to find posts that correspond with the principles in the book(s). This is exactly why (though I frequently recommend the PP to others for consideration) I never suggest this forum. I have no problem with Mathjak, but ...

Re: Gold ETFs old and new
I bought PHYS years ago and dislike it but I don't want to pay taxes to switch out of it. I guess I'm stuck. PHYS is a Trust & therefore isn't taxed at the Collectibles rate: it is taxed like any other ETF. For the PP, I've got all stocks and LTTs in the tax deferred accounts and SHY+IAU in a b...

Re: Permanent Portfolio Failure?
Did the Permanent Portfolio fail in 2021? I ask this provocative question in order to generate some discussion. According to ETF Replay, the Permanent Portfolio generated a total return of 4.1% in 2021. That falls dramatically short of the S&P 500, which generated a total return of 28.7%; and f...

According to the "2021 PP Returns" topic, the votes and replies should be more related to PP
Otherwise this poll is more "2021 Returns" for VP domain.
