Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Oh well....... More of the same. State of Emergency extended until Christmas 2021 in Victoria. But children will get 1/2 price fines - that's positive ::) https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/victoria-s-state-of-emergency-set-to-be-extended-until-december-20210302-p576zs.html I’m dying to se...

Re: Why a housing scarcity?

I think the pool of potential homebuyers has increased noticeably over the past year due to people taking money they normally would have spent on vacations and social outings (sports, concerts, restaurants, and bars) and redirecting it toward home down payments -- whether for a first home, second/v...

Re: Why a housing scarcity?

Sure hope lending rules haven't been loosened along with all of this again.... In my area, houses seem to go under contract immediately, and the few that I have spoken to got a few thousand over asking price. So who is buying in a state that is losing people? Are buyers coming out to Buffalo Grove ...

Re: Why a housing scarcity?

On a nationwide level we never did get back to trend on home building (i.e. a trend that would roughly keep up with population growth) after the start of the Great Recession. To be fair we did need to (for a little while) stop building so many homes as the trend was above population growth during t...

Re: Why a housing scarcity?

The NYC apt market makes sense. Never considered AirBnB! We have our snowbird AZ home under contract. It's becoming a bidding war thing here. We got a little more than asking, on the first day, and that was a month ago. During that month it has become much more intense. Our agent says it's actually ...

Second hand info, a guy from my home town wants to move to Phoenix and build a new house. Builder is telling him it will be 9 months to 2 years to get one built. Materials shortages mostly.

Why a housing scarcity?

All of these people wanting houses today. Where were they living? Are those places emptying? Are rents dropping? Are purchase prices dropping for rental homes and apartments?

Or is it due to interstate moves?

I'll add that we find ourselves in a weird time because we have a system that through technology is massively deflationary, while at the same time having an economic system that is based around consistent inflation. It's like the two don't mix very well and in many ways trying to force the square p...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

What percentage of people over 65 die in the next month in normal times? It’s greater than zero. In any population getting vaccinated, some will die the next day or within the week, even if they had gotten a placebo. Need to see the causation. Presumably its less than 4.91/100,000 If over 65, that ...

Re: Rising Republican Star Faces Accusations from Women

I think that the younger a person is who looks to enter politics, the more likely it is that they are sociopathic or the like. I’ve seen some aspiring career politicians up close and personal. Their motives are not good. I would expand the old joke: “Those that can, do. Those that can’t, teach. Thos...

The more bad things Janet Yellen says about bitcoin, the more you should think that it is good. I don't own any but that point should be obvious as heck.

Let’s cool it with the alt right extremists conspiracy theories. We have to trust our elected leaders. I’m sure Biden has good cause to do this and it will come out in the course of time. When your guy was president, we didn’t jump to conclusions and attack him, please afford us Democrats the same ...

Re: COVID Cases Sharply Declining: Why This Is Worst Case Scenario

Another anecdote. One of the funeral home owners in my hometown told my brother than he is worn out from dealing with the extra funeral load. And that there is a shortage of caskets nationwide. My hometown is 5 or 6 thousand population, semi rural. Only one anecdote but it certainly sounds like ther...

I hang around with a lot of seniors. Most are reporting not much reaction. One person had a low grade fever for several days. She got vaccinated right after having Covid. All of these have gotten Moderna.

Also regarding the above. Executive Editor Dean Baquet had previously declined to fire Mr. McNeil over the two-year-old incident, saying it was clear the term hadn’t been uttered in a “hateful or malicious” way. But that was before a tsunami of intolerance from the forces of tolerance inside the pa...

Why is Congress being so cheap???
Set it at $30! That will really benefit all workers. I mean, there is no downside, so why the heck not?
