Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

Vinny,

I believe one must be in the state 182 days or less to claim non-resident status. Derek and a few others should have had better tax advice. Their tax bite/pinch hurt. Can these super-rich people afford you and me?

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

WiseOne, I believe the New York City 'commuter tax' was reestablished 20 or so years ago. They may get you on that. Also, I think living 6+ months out of state would get you non-resident status: IT-203 time! Do consider the prospect of filing a state return in your new home state. Good laughs there ...

Correction: my car insurance is $778 annually. I checked the statement today.

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

Vinny, The insurance really is $1,000. High population density and really bad Florida drivers. These Florida drivers can manufacture a head-on collision on an empty interstate. Also, I pay "uninsured driver" fee to deal with those who don't think buying insurance necessary. One would think New York ...

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

That market watch.com investor may have a point re crappy cars. My car insurance is $1,000 annually. My repairs will be approx $600. I'll drive 5000 miles this year: about 165 gallons of gas. That's $2000 for the year. Something's working. Vinny, The car is vintage- timing belt and water pump every ...

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

market watch.com had an article by a wealthy investor asserting the path to wealth is driving a crappy car. I believe he directed the thought to the younger people. Maybe the HBPP 4x25 people have a chance.

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

Mark,

You and I are on the same page re maintenance. I tell the mechanic to "find something wrong, please."

Tech,

For whatever reason, I like sitting in repair shops. I've learned a few things in the past 30 years.

Cheers.

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

Vinny, Our 1991 Accord spent 27 years in New York. For the accountant in both of us, in 2015, I had a $2500 rust remediation job done on the underside of the car. Our auto body guy in the Bronx, said I had a hole in the trunk, for starters. An acquaintance who recommended me to the repair guy, chatt...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

The Honda Fit is appealing. The Fit handles my desire for a manual transmission. The other Hondas have gone to turbos and I don't understand why.

Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

Vinny, You must be more patient with the Honda Accords in your life. Our 1991 5-speed manual turns 30 years of age in September. Whereas it should have been gone in 2008, the new mechanic asked if I wanted to rebuild as he knew I had just done a significant repair the previous year. Nine years later...

What repairs did the $5,000 cover?

I'll post my repair experiences in the next post.

Thanks

The parking garage at Castle Village, approx $400/month, may bring piece of mind. The $400 may lighten your wallet, if not your happiness.

Re: Isn't there an Avatar Thread?

Tech, I bought a $30 Wahl haircutting kit from Amazon. Pretty good as long as one's wife wants to take a chance. Small possibility to get it wrong, though, and with nobody else around, it will grow back unnoticed. With my 4th cut coming up my barber is getting really good. And the haircut kit paid f...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

I have had positive results with a laser cap for 8 years. Restored hair from back to the crown, thin though it is. The family "sceptic" admitted it has worked. The last few years the hair line has been it retreat but I no longer reflect the sun or fluorescent light from the back into people's eyes, ...

Re: Where would you move?

The A/C makes Florida OK. Air conditioning levels the playing field when considering living choices. This year the season seems less hot than the past couple of years. If air conditioning is ever "uninvented," I may be compelled to move. The financials and budgeting are ok in FL and should improve i...

Wikipedia says “Concourse” as in the Grand Concourse but I don’t think so. Another Wiki entry says”Highbridge.” I am happy.

Re: Autonomous Enclave in Georgia, USA

The two significant streets near Yankee Stadium are W 167th Street to the north and W 149th Street to the south. West 149th Street is more a shopping/transportation hub. I think W 167th would be the South Bronx boundary and the Cross Bronx Expressway at W 170th Street would reinforce the notion. Mot...

Re: Autonomous Enclave in Georgia, USA

Vinny, The closest listed neighborhood to Yankee Stadium is Highbridge. That is the name of the first bridge into Manhattan, built in the 1840s to bring a supply of clean water to Manhattan. The Stadium is in an area near MacCombs Dam park. There is also MacCombs Dam bridge. So, maybe the neighborho...

Vinny, You suggested Yankees performance since 1994. I went and looked at Yankees play-off appearances since 1995- excellent compared to most other teams. You are right on target. The Atlanta Braves come to mind, though. The New York Post is running some Yankees/Mets history stories of 40 years or s...

In my 'notifications' section, home page with the bell- top right, I have a '2' next to the bell. When I checked, there are two people who are not forum members with irrelevant info. I usually ignore 'notification' and I did not click/open either one. How did these 2 notifications get to me? Thanks.
