Re: Reducing 401k contributions now for tax flexibility later?

With the elimination of the Obamacare fiscal cliff, you have a bit more leeway with your retirement income tax management. And of course, it's very important to find out if you even have a viable Obamacare option. For example, the Obamacare options available to me are insurances that almost no one t...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

Within 2 weeks or less, literally anyone in the US who wants the vaccine will be able to get it. Say what???? Don't get too excited about the media's ill-informed interpretation of what Biden actually said. That is, by May 1st some states will be able to include all adults in the group that's allow...

Don't forget to add grassfed butter and coconut oil to the coffee. To what purpose? If you are trying to lose weight, why add extra calories to coffee which is already calorie free? It's not about the calories. It's about insulin, and the unique ability of fat to satisfy hunger. Increasing your fat...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

It's looking very good for vaccines massively reducing transmissibility (here's a decent summary): https://www.advisory.com/en/daily-briefing/2021/03/04/vaccine-transmission so the more people get vaccinated (or otherwise achieve immunity), the quicker we can get back to normal. I hope you're right...

Re: I need to buy some gold!

Don't think that would get you off the hook, Mark. From what I've read, allocated storage of physical gold in a safe deposit box or wine vault or whatever, is not subject to reporting requirements. But, unallocated accounts like the Perth Mint are. It helps of course that the IRS is not at all clear...

Re: Reducing 401k contributions now for tax flexibility later?

Flyingpylon, I hear you on the tax deferral situation. 88% is a lot. I'd be uncomfortable with that too. You'll need to sit down with a spreadsheet and compare your tax burden now vs in future. If you figure on withdrawing almost the same amount from your 401K that you're earning now, then it's pret...

Take over for me Vinny. O0 There seems to be some disconnect tonight and I should stop posting. Lucky for me, I probably won't have internet for a few days. Re: Colorado Grocery Store Mass Shooter

Yes, that's my feeling. If it's too dangerous to walk around my neighborhood without a bodyguard, that would definitely be the signal to find a safer place to live. Cortopassi, the Second Amendment doesn't say that you can only have a gun if you want to hunt with it. It does suggest, though, that th...

Corto, my solution has been to find a new food addiction. I'm pretty weak-willed too when it comes to this stuff. My latest: dark chocolate with no sugar, dipped into peanut butter. YUM and satisfying. I had this for lunch today because I just needed something nice to get me through this endless gra...

Re: Optimal Diet

Great advice Mark!!!! Don't forget to add grassfed butter and coconut oil to the coffee. And enjoy bacon and eggs anytime you want in addition. Pushups are optional, and also maybe good to lay off the exercise while your body is retraining to metabolize fat. It takes a while before you get over the ...

But you still have to file FBAR and the income tax form when your holdings hit the appropriate thresholds. They're careful not to tell you but they kinda do. Arguments for not having to file?? I don't know of any I'd rely on. I've looked into these services in the past and I always come to the same ...

Re: Sydney Powell's defense

Actually I think most people who voted for Biden could not tell you what his policies are if you asked them. They voted for him because they were told so by numerous mainstream media outlets. If you ask these people for reasons, you would hear the following: 1) they hated trump. 2) sunshine and poni...

Re: I need to buy some gold!

Would you consider something like BullionVault, which has storage in Singapore, Switzerland, etc? You can have your holdings in specific reserved bars (by serial#) vs generic allocated storage, if you like. I'm not affiliated, but am a customer. I'm looking at their website now. Storage fee is only...

I find it interesting that during the time Trump was in office, these Islamic shootings stopped completely. Now he is gone and we have a much more Muslim-friendly administration at the helm - and it's starting up again. Anyone have a good explanation for this? I was guessing that behind the scenes a...

If people actually ate less and exercised more, they would lose weight. AFAIK there is no metabolic chamber data that antithesizes that.
None at all, as long as you don't mind the documented failure rate of > 95% for weight loss plans following that model. Good luck to you if you wish to try it.

IIRC, he has made an analogy with body temperature. If you're running a fever you don't say "oh, I spent a few minutes too long in slightly too hot of a room the past few days", you instead recognize that your body is aiming for a higher temperature and is making it happen. You don't painstakingly ...

Actually, I'd say that the onus isn't on the general public to prove that vegetable oils produced using industrial techniques are safe. The burden of proof is on those who promote and sell these products. And the data that do exist (largely animal studies) indicate that these oils are very damaging ...

I think that's the idea behind "chained CPI". Cost of travel goes up so you reduce travel and buy jigsaw puzzles and garden seeds instead. Great in theory. I had a similar experience here. Grocery, real estate/coop maintenance, and lots of household items went way up in cost. Like, > 10%. But, becau...

Before coronavirus there was a large segment of the population that would have preferred to wear a mask but were afraid of ridicule. They need to retu...
