Re: Anyone here sorry that they have the PP instead of a Boglehead portfolio?

Haha. What I really find interesting is how much higher one's quality of life is when you don't have your life savings riding in an unbalanced wreck of a portfolio. I'm viewing all of this stuff from a place of detached curiosity. Andrew Yang in his podcast with Joe Rogan remarked that if you give p...

Re: Tortoise's baby

I hope to be a father one day. I want to be married by the time I'm 40 -- currently 31. And I want to have children shortly after. If that's your plan, and if you want your children to share your DNA, then I hope you plan to marry a woman at least several years younger than yourself :) Seriously......

The fed just announced they’re cutting their target interest rate to zero.

We may even see negative rates coming soon ala Europe.

I’m very interested in seeing what will happen to the PP tomorrow.

My employer has closed all stores for 2 weeks officially starting today. All non-essential people at head office are to be working from home too. Basically just a skeleton crew. I’m resisting the urge to add Coronavirus jokes to my next stand up set. EVERY comedian is doing it, and apparently audie...

I missed 2008 in an investing sense. And this is starting to “smell” a lot like it.

I agree with dualstow that simply rebalancing and trusting your I̶r̶o̶n̶ ̶m̶a̶n̶ ̶s̶u̶i̶t̶ pp/gb allocation to protect you is the way to go. If you were 60/40 I’d say all bets were off.

That doesn't mean I ignore the fact that bad things can happen that would require me to be able to sustain myself without the usual facilities for a time.

I think most people have much too high a rate of time preference.
I'd agree with that.

Re: Logistics in the coronavirus pandemic

Right. In a world of just-in-time inventory management and delivery, we live in a world with a thin veneer of what we call "civilization."

The division of labour might make us all more productive in aggregate, but it also seems to make us all more vulnerable in aggregate.

EARN IT Bill

"Never let a good crisis go to waste." While the public consciousness is so focused on COVID-19 and its associated fallout. There is a bill worming its way through the U.S. Government that looks to essentially put a backdoor in end-to-end encryption used by online communications platforms....

Re: Logistics in the coronavirus pandemic

This whole situation with hoarding items from the grocery store is like a giant version of prisoners dilemma. Or perhaps a derivative of the tragedy of commons. A lot of the buying of consumer items from grocery stores isn't from fear of the virus. It's the knowledge that everyone else is stocking u...

I work part-time for a large athletic clothing retailer in Vancouver. We are having severely reduced hours from our normal operating times of 7:30am to 2am. We are now down to 11am to 7pm. Additionally, all head office employees are now working from home if possible. As a computer science student an...

I'm gearing up for my nightly, harrowing excursion to the gym.

If I don't make it back:

- Xan can have all my stocks
- Craig can have all my cash
- Dualstow gets all my gold
- Long bonds go to Vinny

Bury me with a signed copy of Craig and Tex's PP book plz.

As long as it's not an assisted open knife. Damn Canadian border guard... You're not kidding, brother. I have an assisted opening blade I bought many years ago that is now no longer legal to sell in Canada. I baby that thing because getting a new one if it breaks is going to be damn near impossible.
