The FDA Systematically Covers Up Fraud & Misconduct In Drug Trials

Found this on Zero Hedge.  Yeah, Zero Hedge has a lot of conspiracy articles but I tend to believe this one.  Sadly, I fully admit to taking any advice my doctor gives with a grain of salt.  It's not I think my doctor is evil, greedy or stupid, I just think most medical advice is either not backed u...

Re: Gold dealers in Texas?

Texas Precious Metals is about an hour away in Shiner Texas.  One benefit of going there is to drive across the street to the Spoetzel Brewery for some Shiner Bock Beer.

Provident Precious Metals is in Dallas is the other major gold dealer in Texas.

Re: A Simpler Easier Permanent Portfolio

I have a hard time putting 25% of my money in cash.  Instead, last year I put my cash allocation like this:  80% Wellesley Income and 20% gold.  I know it's not as robust from a counterparty risk standpoint but it should be slow steady grower, sort of like a PP within a PP.  I just played around wi...

Re: Buy Gold Coins At Spot

In case anyone is interested - I checked Gainesville Coin website this afternoon and I see they are selling Austrian 100 Corona coins for spot. Certainly Gainesville Coin is not giving away gold coins as an act of charity. Something smells fishy here. Caveat emptor, y'all. Usually Corona's sell for...

I like them too, just be ready for a 1.5" diameter "wafer thin" coin. They're basically the same size as the Philharmonic.  You might be thinking of the Austrian Ducat which is tin foil thin which is why I wouldn't buy them.  FYI - There are actually two versions of this coin:  the A...

Buy Gold Coins At Spot

In case anyone is interested - I checked Gainesville Coin website this afternoon and I see they are selling Austrian 100 Corona coins for spot.  Normally these coins go for about $10-14 over spot. FYI - these coins contain 0.96 oz gold and normally you can sell them for a little under spot so they h...

99% of doctors specializing in heart disease believe that eating saturated fat is harmful and causes heart disease.  It is settled. Google "Lipid Hypothesis" and you see: In 1978, 211 prominent researchers in the field were questioned about plasma cholesterol and the advisability of chang...

I know two at Bogleheads. Unless they're lying, they've done it. But, I know I never could. I'm one that actually did it.  I rode the tech bubble up in the 1990's then lost 50% of my assets in 2000-2003 then lost 50% again in 2008.  Despite all the sleepless nights and my wife being terrified, I st...

Re: Doctors Tell All - And It's Bad

I've worked with hundreds of physicians and surgeons in a previous life in medical device sales and consulting.  I would say the vast majority of them would put the burden of our government (medicare/medicaid) and trail lawyers right up there with insurance carriers as the biggest problem with medi...

I read enough MR stuff that I'm pretty confident that while we can't "predict the future" to a huge degree of accuracy, we can at least work in a realm of probabilities and degrees of precision that are more reliable than saying anything can happen with equal probability. Over the past 20...

Murph, Here's a few links I've bookmarked that may help you.  UNL has one of the better websites about ag economics - lots of good articles and survey data here http://agecon.unl.edu/realestate.html USDA Cash rent values by region http://www.farmlandinvestorcenter.com/cash-rent-data/cash-rent-survey...

Re: Getting Away from it All

So a group of people decided to impose their tyranny on everyone else by banning people from doing certain things that would negatively impact "ambiance". Sounds like the opposite of a place I'd like to live. It's why I'll never live in a place with a home owners association. I already ha...

Re: Getting Away from it All

My husband and I visited the Czech Republic, last year, while on a Danube cruise. It is a beautiful area. We had no trouble navigating around on our own, knowing only English. The Old World charm rivals Western Europe, IMHO. And, the cost of living is much lower than the US and W. Europe. I'd love ...

do you speak German? If not, has that been an impediment? Nein!  I never found it to be an impediment since most restaurants and sites of interest have English speakers.  By the way, on this past trip, we rented a car in Munich and drove everywhere using our Garmin.  No problems driving whatsoever.

Getting Away from it All

The last 2 years we spent a month in central Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, and upper Bavaria) vacationing.  Obviously there are a lot of great sites to see but the small things that exude Old World charm I noticed really make this a great getaway.  In Prague especially you notice: Absolutely no T...

Re: My first attempt at Selling Individual Long Bonds

Now that I've bought physical gold coins and traded individual bonds, I only have a few experiences left on my pp bucket list: redeem I-Bonds (should be very exciting) ands sell gold coins! Actually selling my gold coins has been my only exciting PP experience.  Two years ago I sold some silver to ...

Re: Why the Hispanic Classification?

This is probably a really silly question, but why does the US government track "Hispanic" as a category of people?  Hispanics, to me, seem to be largely the same as "white" with perhaps a tad more black or American Indian thrown in to the mix that the rest of us mixed whites but...

Re: Political Evolution: Why Do Young Voters Lean Left? It's in the Genes

I think the simpler and more logical explanation is children by and large experience a world where they consume, almost exclusively, the production of others. They also do not bear the full consequences of their actions. Someone is there (usually parents) to clean up after them. Many people never g...

Re: Gold Coin Balance Fooled by fake gold Eagle

I went through all the tungsten coins they sell and I see they have Eagles, Buffalos, Maples, Krugerands, and Kangeroos.  The Chinese obviously allow counterfeiting of foreign coins but not coins produced at their mint so you don't see any fake Pandas on Alibaba.  I also didn't see any Philharmonics...

I don't think we have to go that far yet.  So far only a few fake Eagles have been found.  There have been no reports of fake Maples, Phils, or Buffalos.  And to be super cautious, if you purchase current year dated Buffalos, they almost certainly come directly from the US mint so I don't see any r...

Re: Gold Coin Balance Fooled by fake gold Eagle

Do we need to rethink the "safety" of purchasing physical bullion for our PP in light of the fact that we may be buying fakes and can't tell the difference? I don't think we have to go that far yet.  So far only a few fake Eagles have been found.  There have been no reports of fake Maples...
