Re: Benefits of State Marriage

I think that the benefits are more about life satisfaction than financial benefits. I found this link though which shows the overall financial benefit to society (rather than the individual) when more people get married before having children. http://www.heritage.org/poverty-and-inequality/report/ma...

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

I've been a really busy mom lately and haven't had much time to really look deeply into Trump's foreign policies and everything...but you'd have to live under a rock to not notice that the media has gone INSANE recently over the most harmless things. It's been harder for me actually find the real is...

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

I think the Democratic Party at this point would be so much better off if she would just STFU. Although now, I'm so fed up with Democratic politicians that maybe she's doing me a favor :) I'm very appreciative for the election's revelation of exactly how insane so many people are. Including some fa...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

I'm reminded of the book Conversations with God here, which I'm sure is controversial within Christian circles for being so open and forgiving, but one of the things that was discussed was the notion that one can determine how helpful vs harmful a behavior is by asking the question, "what if e...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

So I have had a really hard time finding any Christian denominations I agree with, based on what I've read and experienced.  I was searching today and discovered that there is a Christian Universalist group, which I think fits me the best. I would probably still be an atheist if I didn't experience ...

section III is particularly relevant to this question III. http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/docs/factsheets/lifetime-risk-hiv-dx-us.pdf Looking at the compiled data on the attached link, it seems if society truly cares for those men with disordered attractions, society will discourage this behavior. Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

Here is an article I read that I found fascinating, although it is very long. It has a Christian theme and it talks about what it means to love homosexuals, as well as a possible interpretation of the gay rights movement: http://mobile.wnd.com/2005/10/32898/ Mountaineer, I am finding I agree with yo...

I've never before heard the phrase "gender fluid" before.  I had to look it up to see if it's a real thing.  So strange!

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

bTW JAFS you are making some excellent points.  I'm not trying to criticize you as you seem very intelligent and considerate.  Some of the stuff I'm saying is just for the sake of having a balanced discussion and seeing all sides of the issue.  I see your point of view for sure ,,but I also see a di...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

It's not true that gay and lesbian people had the same rights. They didn't have the right to marry someone they loved and wanted to marry.  There are also other rights that gay couples didn't have, for example, some states have laws that mandate only family members can be designated as health care ...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

I think if one understands the intent and context of the word "rights" as used by James Madison in describing religious rights, one is very hard pressed to use the term "gay rights" ... I do not think there is any such thing; perhaps others see it differently.  Now, if you just ...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

I hear what you're saying, Michelle. At the same time, I am a guy married to a woman and we have no plans to have children. So, I guess we're defiling the definition just as much as any same-sex couple. Well, in today's world a lot of people aren't having kids for many valid reasons, and because of...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

This article talks about the roots of the word "marriage."  I can't copy and paste some parts of it from my phone, but the whole marriage ceremony was created as a rite of passage for agreeing to reproduction and creating a family.  That's why the marriage consummation has meaning and &quo...

This thread is hilarious!

I'm trying to think of any life experience I've had that relates to this though and I can't.  I guess that's a good thing.

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

After reading and posting about homosexuality here, I actually feel worse for them than I did before.  They must feel very torn inside. It seems to me that you had a bias against homosexuality, and you're just finding small bits of things to reinforce that, and ignoring large amounts of evidence th...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

I don't get this. What is wrong with the usual way? Forgive my vulgarity, but me and my fellow software developers at work joke about how the ultimate goal of our employer is for us to bend over and........ just use your imagination. So maybe it's just the way we are all being programmed nowadays. ...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

What about the health consequences of anal sex?  I am bothered by how as far as I know, anal sex is becoming more common among heterosexuals as well. I remember hearing that kids are doing it now to prevent pregnancy.  Isn't that an age-old Catholic schoolgirl thing? I've heard about it since I was...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

I have a different view than you do of the Bible, and of Jesus. And, yes, if we're discussing gay rights in our society, and what rights they should have, then the important document is the Constitution, since that's what our system is based on. Given that many sexual practices have existed in many...

Sources? And, you seem to want it both ways - first, you dismiss studies, and then refer to them. The only studies I've seen that support your conclusion are from kids of divorced parents, as I said. I didn't cite any new ones because they didn't say anything I didn't already cite.  I was agreeing ...

Re: Thoughts on gay rights?

The studies compared children of divorce to children with parents who were still together. Some of the divorced kids had one parent, and some had same sex partners, and I believe still others had opposite sex partners.  What it showed is that same sex parents of kids from divorce did about as well ...
