Re: Trump and sexual harassment and the media

I am actually a bit curious right now as to why this stuff hasn't happened to me at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad. But at the same time I find it odd that it doesn't happen to me. I am getting the sense that most people expect most women to experience this kind of thing in today's society. I don...

Re: Trump and sexual harassment and the media

Judging by the number of politicians caught in actions that could be categorized as sexual harassment, pedophilia, or adultery, I would guess that if all prominent members of the US or state governments who have engaged in such behavior were to resign, the stampede out of Washington and state capit...

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

Does anybody seriously think that Trump meant that Hillary should go to prison without first being tried and convicted of a crime? Please, give me a break! I've uttered exactly those words on more than one occasion, and there's no greater believer in the constitutional justice system than I. We say...

Re: Trump and sexual harassment and the media

I don't know. When it comes to sexual harassment, I guess it comes down to a he-said, she-said debate and we really don't know who to believe. Some claim these women were lying, and the timing of their claims really is quite fishy to me. Was Bill Clinton worse than Trump? I definitely believe so. Cl...

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

I think of nationalism and putting America first kind of like how we put our own children and families first. I like kids and think that people who adopt are very noble to do it, but you don't see any families feeding all their neighbors' kids ahead of their own.

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

I think the media puts a bad taste in people's mouths about Trump, and for some people, it is impossible to get rid of it because they choose to see only the absolute worst they possibly can. I say that because I used to think he was really horrible too. The few times I did hear him speak, I was int...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

I just read through John again, and I don't see anything that even resembles anti semitism. I do see a lot of negativity directed at the self-righteous, the decent right wing religious folks of their time, the pharisees. But it's hard to twist anti-semitism into the NT, particularly given the fact ...

Re: Honor / Virtue

Another topic of interest to me...are honor and virtue becoming bygones or is it simply nostalgic thinking to imagine these once existed? Is our increasing urbanization leading to an anonymity that allows us to behave without honor and virtue and get away with it whereas in the past life in smaller...

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

With all the stuff that I've seen, it sounds like Trump is more honest than most politicians we've seen lately. And as far as treatment of women, Bill Clinton has been the most sexist president of recent years. Also, Hillary was treating those women pretty badly too. So here she claims to be all for...

Re: Hillary's new book: "It Was My Turn"

How do you find out about areas where Trump is corrupt, incompetent, dishonest, etc, when the main source of information you have is the media? It takes a lot of effort to sift through the garbage to pull out nuggets of truth. I wish I had more time and energy for that, but my impression so far is ...

Re: Benefits of State Marriage

Since a state marriage is a legally binding contract, romance has nothing to do with it. You shouldn't let emotions get in the way of making level-headed business decisions, which is essentially what a state marriage is. Unfortunately, most people don't realize this when they enter into it. Well fo...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

Not the greatest analogy, I think. If the television completely breaks, the show goes on but the receiver is no longer partaking in it. Personally, I think it will be nice to find out that Libertarian666 is right and that isn't the end but I'm sure I won't be too disappointed if I just cease to exi...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

If you lost all of your memories, would you still be you? This is something I think about a lot, since I have a parent with late-stage dementia. When you realize that progressive degeneration of the brain can cause a person to not only lose their most significant memories but to undergo such a prof...

Curious, if any of you are married and had a prenup, how did that whole conversation go? I'm glad my husband and I didn't get a prenup. Sorry but it's just so plain unromantic.

Re: White Pride / Racism

Another thought exercise...how many people upon visiting Japan would be disappointed to find out that instead of being a unique country full of Japanese people and Japanese tradition was instead overrun by pasty white people blasting beach boy music from their Cadillacs. That when asking natives to...

Re: White Pride / Racism

Oh I also wanted to say, I recently had a conversation online with my best friend from school growing up. She was also my Maid of Honor at my wedding. She's Chinese and we never really talked about race growing up, except to commiserate on how tough our mothers were on us. Anyway, I told her that I ...

Re: White Pride / Racism

I have to add, my mother was born in Korea and moved here when she was ten. She and some of my family members have used the term "Americanized" to describe how she changed. I'm not sure if other immigrant families use that term anymore. She ended up marrying my father, who is caucasian and...

Re: White Pride / Racism

I don't think there's anything wrong with recognizing trends amongst races. It's just biology. People in the same family often share similar traits. Therefore you cannot deny statistics when they show correlations between races and various traits. I think that as a country we have come very far in t...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

For me becoming a Christian has the most to do with what kind of life I choose to live while I'm still alive. In a nutshell, I can live for myself, the way I always used to, or I can live my life to serve God by doing my best to follow the teachings of Jesus. I simply do not see any other point to b...

Re: Benefits of State Marriage

I will say though that I agree that there is a big problem with society's views today on marriage. When a lot of people get married, I don't think they really mean, "In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health." Rather they mean, they'll stay together for as long as it's fun or ful...

Re: Benefits of State Marriage

The legal involvement is a part of the symbolism of getting married. A name is changed. You are legally part of the same family now. Even amongst the religious, people vary in how God-centered they are. Society views marriage as a commitment that at the very least is very difficult and painful to en...

Re: Benefits of State Marriage

I think that the benefits are more about life satisfaction than financial benefits. I found this link though which shows the overall financial benefit to society (rather than the individual) when more people get married before having children. http://www.heritage.org/poverty-and-inequality/report/ma...
