If that wasn't sarcasm, this isn't 1950. You can't have both ways.
What's the other way I tried to have it?

Soldered RAM should be an absolute non-starter. Do they have any offerings without it?

Re: Isn't there an Avatar Thread?

Agreed on the massive quoting, and on the tall avatars. There doesn't seem to be a super easy fix for the avatar issue. It isn't as simple as a max number of vertical pixels, because people upload files of all sizes to be avatars, most of which are way more huge than what gets displayed. The issue i...

I was really surprised by that. I eat a lot more vegetables at home than when I'm eating out. I think.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

I tried to buy some bulk stuff (barley and oats), but those, and everything else, were/are sold out. This is strictly a result of everyone "stocking up"? All this sold out food is certainly not getting consumed currently? Plus, the restaurants are not buying food, though they tend to buy ...

Just to confirm...Ad Orientem never got tested, so he/she may not have had COVID-19, correct? Correct. I wouldn't mind getting tested for the antibodies if they ever come up with one that is not too expensive. But I was not tested so it is possible that I had something else, though I think it unlik...

Just finished Census 2020. From searching for web site to submitting took all of three minutes! Fairly easy and quick for a single person. No questions regarding pets!!! That would have GREATLY elongated the process! Seems like mine was a quite basic version. Gave my race as "White" but a...

I think a demand spike would also have been caused by people deciding to go to the store less frequently, all at the same time.

Do they not? Every time I've applied for health insurance, the insurance company wants to know about all kinds of things like that. Life insurance too.

Still, even the hanging ones look like they put a lot of pressure on the door molding . I'm a heavier guy at 220 pounds too... so it's a tough call. Apparently scuffs on the drywall are a pretty common side effect too. So there's an occasion that I would use a "u", but the Canadian does n...

This was certainly off-topic for the Netflix thread, so I moved it over here where we can discuss what we and various/our own employers are doing. I have a small company that does services online for a niche industry, largely related to local city/town/county governments. We're fairly well insulated...

I just started Dirty Money while eating dinner. EDIT: LMAO at Wells Fargo. Excellent series. That's the next episode we plan to watch. Still reeling from the Guardians Inc episode. I'll watch that one next then! The Wells Fargo scandal and the associated perverse behaviour is rampant in the industr...

Re: Strategically taking a 401k loan and/or no-penalty withdrawal

It seems to allow up to $100,000 to be withdrawn from an IRA or 401(k) with no penalty. Seems that the tax still needs to be paid. Sorry, I don't have a 401(k) and I have no idea how a loan out of one works. I'm just (personally) interested in the no-penalty withdrawal, although it doesn't seem like...

Why would I want to take money out of my IRA? Isn't the point to put money into it? I mean, yes, if I need it to live on, which is what this is for. It doesn't seem like a useful tool otherwise.

No, because we don't have a "forum host". The site is hosted on a Linode, which is an unmanaged virtual server provider. I manage the forum on top of that. That does mean that I'm a single point of failure. It might make sense to establish a Linode account separate from my personal one, an...

I tried to order shelf-stable milk online last week, something like Parmalat. It’s like $26/gallon and doesn’t ship out until the end of April. I didn’t respond by buying extra milk, though. IDK about availability during this insanity, but Carnation makes non-fat dry milk powder. It keeps near-fore...

You could say cold/flu is part of the human herd genome, and like cancer, its so much like us that the immune system has trouble distinguishing it. It'll get worse every year because the population is aging. Even stranger is self/non self with consciousness. Are you the same person you were 10 year...
