Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

Couple of comments. Trump is a poor extemporaneous speaker. He has good, maybe excellent problem solving and decision making instincts but can't explain things very well. Think of Mayor Daley the elder. Think of how Daley would have been in the face of a relentless, hostile press, celebrities, media...

Re: I wonder if the 180 degree turn made them dizzy

It's really quite simple. If they place a higher priority on gathering than on safety, it's okay. If you do, you're deplorable.

Re: Lockdowns, where effective and where not

We should be able to see the new outbreaks as a result of the flagrant Memorial Day weekend celebrating.
Are they happening? Serious question.

Re: Another angle on the recent events in America and the world

Before it gets to the point of military vs citizens, said citizens will have been thoroughly demonized so that it will be much easier for the state’s agents to act in good conscience. An inexact example would be David Koresh and the rest at Waco. Or Jews in Germany, intellectuals in Russia and lots...

Re: Another angle on the recent events in America and the world

I wonder how many serious gun owners there are in the US. Because the ones I have known have many guns and thousands of rounds of ammo. And there are a lot of them. There have to be hundreds of millions of rounds of ammo in private hands.

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

Good points.
I like the description of conservativism as being skeptical of innovations, because most innovations are failures. OTOH a lot of the progress western civilization has made has happened against the resistance of conservatives.

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

I really am in a pickle with regards to voting this election. I see incredible downsides to both candidates. Both sides of the political spectrum have been radicalized to a degree that is frightening. I am really hopeful that if things continue to spiral in this country a third party candidate ente...

Re: Another angle on the recent events in America and the world

Guns are actually very relevant in defending yourself from terrorists and burglars. Yes but the thinking behind the 2nd amendment was that armed citizens won't be ruled by tyrants. I wish the pro-2A advocates would stress that more, instead of putting so much of their efforts behind the personal pr...

Commercial Gold Vaults in USA

I'm aware of the Texas Bullion Depository. I could google this, but thought maybe someone here has done homework and checking on the subject. Are there many other private vaulting companies in the US? I imagine there are some in NYC, probably geared more for institutional customers. Any in midwest, ...

pmward, Here is an article from Arizona that is pretty good. Well I think so because they say what I've been thinking for several weeks. Namely that the only measure that means anything is hospitalizations. And they say AZ has been trending down. https://www.12news.com/article/news/health/coronavir...

Unmasking

Can anyone explain the alleged unmasking? I understand that Flynn’s name was redacted in transcripts or related reports. So the reporting is that, say, Biden unmasked his name, or else requested it. But in theory, how does he know whose name is redacted? Or is he seeing the redactions, and asking th...

Re: Atlas Shrugged Book

It’s one of the most influential books of all time. Supposedly. :)
It’s never been out of print. And this is a great time to read it.

It changed my life, but I was ready for it. So be careful. ;)

As to the story, just remember it’s fiction. It’s philosophy in story form.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Well AZ is officially going to be the guinea pigs... The last 2 weeks have been our highest in both cases and deaths yet (matter of fact just last Friday was our largest day for both to date)... and our governor just officially announced that in spite of that we are doing full open up this Friday. ...

I have read it. The devaluation happened when gold became legal to own and the price was allowed to float. Since we can own gold, I think the PP is the right path now.
