Re: Ray Dalio on Bonds

Speaking of real estate and bonds...I have mostly rolled to short and IT bonds but I still have a smidgeon of LTTs in my leveraged PP. However, I digress. I think I have sufficient cash and bond savings I overall, so I decided to back off accumulating more cash and bonds and throw the extra at my mo...

Amen on the political threads...getting burned out on them. The last really good thread on the board was the Dalio bonds thread.

And I will call myself out since I started this one...bad kbg.

P.S...my critique above is a classical critique of Libertarianism which I fully agree with. There are others that don’t resonate with me as they are grounded in a counter perspective vs. a legit here’s an actual problem with your theory and/or I just don’t like your theory. Re: Regulations, Litigation, and Personal Responsibility

By nature I tend to be grounded in understanding why things are the way they are. One of the seminal books of my intellectual development was a book I read in the early 00s. The book is called Thinking in Time by Neustadt and May. The 5 second summary is to understand people, institutions and things...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

I love Libertarian talking points and arguments, they are so cute. And those little cutie pies usually don't even think about how many implicit assumptions they are making. I found out long ago it's really quite pointless to argue with a Libertarian. Practicality doesn't exist in their universe nor ...

Re: Back to School Blues

Ah, details/context to your other thread. It really sucks for the kids for sure and I feel bad for them being taken out of their normal routine. I work with youth and it was sad to see the traditions of graduation be totally thrown out the window last spring. ON the other hand...50% of your city isn...

Why burn brain cells on something that isn't going to be the case? Democrats are too pessimistic, Republicans are too optimistic. Unless it's the Black Plague, pandemics are usually gone after a couple of years. Between the continual advancement of the virus, herd immunity and several vaccines next ...

Occam’s razor...or it’s a good public health practice for an aerosol borne virus pandemic.

Think I’ll go with that.

But thank you for fighting for my freedom by not wearing a mask. The world is safer for democracy due to your valiant efforts.

Re: 2020 U.S. Presidential Debates

Hard to say with polling in today’s world, but the approach the Trump team and Trump took appears to have backfired based on the latest polls. The COVID break out in the inner circle didn’t help either. If we use the 30% polling rule, pretty much the entire country minus the true believers who won’t...

I could be completely wrong on this due to memory, But I think it was will Durant in the lessons of history discussing plagues and pandemics who said no matter who you are or what you think they just don’t care. That is a paraphrase.

Re: 2020 U.S. Presidential Debates

I'm sorry gang. That was almost a useless debate and if Trump does that again I'm voting for Biden purely out of spite. During mix it up time, go for it. During answer/2 minute, shut up and be polite, period. It is not too much to ask. The R media stooges were all pre-announcing how tough Trump was ...

Re: Biden Reportedly Asked For Debate Breaks, REFUSES To Get Inspected For Ear Piece Or Do Drug Test

There is a well known political statistical rule of thumb that goes like this...throw out 30% points on each side and pay attention to the rest as for that 60% it just doesn't matter what you ask them; their side is awesome and the other side sucks. This is also the reason why the candidates only ac...

Re: Biden Reportedly Asked For Debate Breaks, REFUSES To Get Inspected For Ear Piece Or Do Drug Test

Frankly none of you guys matter. US national elections are about swinging the middle one way or another. Biden dispelled categorically dementia, though it’s clear he is old and at times has trouble forming a sentence. Trump was flat our annoying. So much so I almost feel like casting a protest vote....

This is all true...but fundamentally they are no different than any other treasury other than the base value being increased annually due to CPI adjustments. The bigger, much bigger drivers are stated interest rate and duration which will hammer both Ts and TIPs.

I'd be completely cool with that as long as profits were required to be fully distributed annually and personal perks were not expensible. (In reality there needs to be retained earnings but I would say they also need to be put into play within a short period of time). I'm not understanding this pa...

Re: New York Times has Trump's taxes!

Yes, back to taxes. Some things are systemic and our tax code enables these things. It is what it is because both parties bake in goodies for their constituents. Do that for a 100 years or so and it gets pretty insane. However, try to remove a goodie and people go crazy. In my world taxes would go ...

Keeping the US military apolitical and the stuff about civility and compromise I mentioned as well.

Keep the folks with rocks, swords, harquebuses, cannons, guns, lasers (military) out of it. Once they get in it, they always win.
