Re: The GOLD scream room
That Bullion DNA looks pretty cool -- https://www.mint.ca/en/bullion/bullion-dna -- but what about all the old coins? Fascinating, thanks for sharing. Validating my decision to go with the silver maple leafs for this order. Neat. Well, that and the fact that Silver Eagles are around 75% over spot r...

Re: The GOLD scream room
There's not much to it. To check size and weight, use this simple piece of plastic: https://goldcoinbalance.com To check timbre, simply rest the coin on the tip of your finger and gently flick the edge with your fingernail or a piece of hard plastic like a pen. If you hear a very high-pitched ringi...

Re: The Peter Schiff portfolio: an evolutionary offshoot of the PP
I would say working age population shrinking is turning out to be inflationary because of wage inflation. We are seeing that now Agreed, and often not talked about but we lost 1M people to Covid. A lot of them were not working, but even a bunch of older folks would do some part time work. Many are ...
Silver
I know this is the gold section, but curious if anyone else also buys silver.
I just did another buy, I like having some. In an SHF scenario may be a little easier to barter with than gold eagles since they are worth less?
Thoughts?

Re: The GOLD scream room
Train your ear. Use known good coins. If it meets size, weight and timbre (rings true), it is as good a gold. You've found the philosopher's stone if you can make a base metal match gold for size and weight and timbre. And even the most wretched man can check that with a scale, an eye and an ear. N...

FWIW, since I started this thread I figured I would share that I have started moving my holdings to SGOL. As tax loss harvesting opportunities pop up, im selling GLDM and moving. I like the current geo diversity of SGOL and hope it stays that way around. While my analysis declared IAUM the winner, t...

Re: The GOLD scream room
The thing I really like about the Maple Leafs is that apparently they are quite difficult to counterfeit convincingly. There's a specific technology that the Canadian Mint calls "Bullion DNA" that includes some security features. The thing I don't like about them is that unlike Gold Eagles they are...

Re: Another Gold ETF post
Agree with the general feeling on a Chinese holding company. However, I think the location, local laws in effect and the auditing/auditor is probably more important. If the vault is in the US or UK with a western auditing firm I'm not that concerned. Move the vault to Bejing, use a non-western Euro...

Cleaned up the post a bit and added some more tickers: I feel in investing, its super important to know how different parties selling you things make their money. This helps assess risk. So I'll start with some Gold ETF definitions. Sponsor: This is the company who starts up the ETF and is largely r...

Re: Another Gold ETF post
I just went through the prospectus for AAAU, and there is nothing in there about redeeming ETF shares in exchange for physical gold. Its just got the standard language allowing Authorized Participants to do it (which none of us are), and only in chunks of 25,000 shares which works out to be about $4...

Where are you seeing it's still the case you can exchange shares for physical gold? I don't see thats the case since Goldman took over?

I hold about 50% physical gold in various places, but im still using GLDM for all my paper gold. I haven't moved yet, but i have done some research I figured i'd share in case its useful to someone else. GLD: ER of .4%, making this one of the most expensive ETFs. Liquidity is high for this as it is ...

Re: Visit to the SWP Vault
Last week my wife and I finally managed to visit the SWP vault facility on Grand Cayman. This was a visit planned back in early 2020 that was interrupted by the Wuhan lock down. Our plane tickets were placed on hold, and we waited all this time for the Island to finally reopen. Meanwhile, we sent a...

Re: Vanguard has FDIC insured settlement account
Yes, they have been piloting this for a while slowly inviting customers to use it.
Regardless that they have this, I like Fidelity's approach better. Their cash management has far better features, albeit with less yield than Vanguard due to higher fees.

Understood dualstow. Vinny's info is helpful at a minimum just giving me some more names to research. Ihad a negative experience with AJPM about 10 years ago. Nothing major, but my delivery took almost 2 months to get to me and they were unable to provide any updates. In fairness to them, the gold w...

I was looking for a till with about a month maturity yesterday so I wouldn't have to remember to enter the auction today. Looked for options yesterday and there was a bill maturing I believe on 12/27 or 12/29...anyways at my lot size of 30,000 there was a 20bp haircut between the market yield for a ...

Thanks for both the positive and negative feedback on jmbullion. I'll check them out as well. As said I've always done apmex but I think they're getting more expensive. They are 1% over spot higher than Gainesville coins even after factoring in Gainesville's shipping costs. Any feedback on Gainesvil...

Re: Help a newbie to trust the PP
Since you asked , Yes , I view the pp as a capital preservation portfolio, after you compounded and grew your money as best as you could and that usually means decades of equities . For those who tend to exhibit poor investor behavior when markets got volatile I recommend getting a third party to m...

Re: Tempting Cash Rebate offers
After seeing rate was better for lower amounts, I contemplated the $500 for $30k offer but still don't think it is worth it. After state tax, rate would be more like 5.1 1 year Treasury is 4.75 So all the trouble to earn an extra .35 % $100 maybe? 500 on 30,000, assuming you keep it in there 90 day...

Re: Tempting Cash Rebate offers
To get a higher yield you have to accept more risk. And anybody who is eager to leave their cash with Citibank would do well to first read up on its history in the stock market crash of 1929 (ever heard of Charlie Mitchell?) and, more recently, the financial crisis of 2007-2009 that forced a re-str...
