Re: Retirement Withdrawals

I had to take my first RMD last year and also started SS. I decided to go with the strategy I read about on Bogleheads to have no taxes withheld on SS, take the RMD in one lump sum at the end of the year and pay the tax bill that would be due from the RMD. There is a special provision in the tax cod...

Re: Gun Poll

I feel like I posted this several weeks ago in another thread. But, I have several friends and acquaintances who are now first time gun owners. This started before George Floyd. A Covid thing I think. It's hard to keep all of the 2020 fun times straight in my mind. I posted in another thread about ...

Re: Move after retiring?

Already moved for climate once - from Ohio to Florida. My parents were retired and spending the winters in Florida so after the extreme winters of 77 and 78 we decided to join them and never looked back. My wife inherited some land that sits on a beach on a small island in the Philippines and we pla...

Re: Only 6% of covid-19 deaths were solely caused by it

I was just watching Tucker and he said that a tweet that Donald Trump shared referring to this information from the CDC was taken down because it was "misinformation".

Hopefully, I',m missing some of the details because it's one of the damnest things I've heard of it true.

I would say that this meets the Supreme Court definition of speech not covered under the 1st amendment as being equivalent to "shouting fire in a crowded theater". What you cited is NOT so clear-cut.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shouting_fire_in_a_crowded_theater Vinny I have not alwa...

Re: Gun Poll

There really ought to be a fourth option for answering this poll: "I'm not gonna say." +1 Another one might be "I don't but I WILL if BLM protesters start coming near my neighborhood". Too late, then. You can get a servicable weapon and ammo for a few hundred bucks, why wait? We...

That's a relief to know!. So in light of this new information I'm assuming you are going around licking door handles and breathing deeply in crowded rooms? After all, we aren't getting any younger, better to catch it sooner rather than later! A couple of questions: 1. Why would this information cau...

Re: CNN is going to regret carrying so much of the RNC convention

Of note the aforementioned law is applied at the individual level...I've never met a person in the military who wants to get involved in any of this stuff. Foreign bad guys, US military. Internal bad guys, a host of law enforcement agencies. I'm sure there are a few outliers but anytime Trump says ...

Sounds just like the story where the reporter in Portland said that a "small group" broke away from the "mostly peaceful protests" to smash a window and start a "small fire" inside a government building.

If anyone has been looking for a replacement for the Drudge Report, as I have, you might want to check out https://www.revolver.news/

I wouldn't call it unbiased - just biased in the way Drudge used to be before he, or whoever runs it now, awokened.

I've only been watching this from the sidelines, can I ask one question without getting my head ripped off? Re: Marxism, Socialism, Communism, Who's on First

The differences between the camps are real and they exist, but they've also been exaggerated, sometimes to the point of absurdity. I agree with that statement which is why I have very little tolerance for campaign ads and speeches. Having said that, I must say that the DEMs have been doing a very p...

Pretty lousy choices but if I had to choose one fund to reduce my stock exposure I'd go with FIPDX. I know TIPS aren't too popular with PPer's but it's got a good expense ratio and pretty good returns right now.

Re: Rioting is fine until it helps Trump!

I don't think the rioters really give a damn about who wins the election. My theory is that a lot of young peoples spent too much time in COVID lockdown playing Grand Theft Auto or other violent video games and decided it would be even more fun to do it for real. The Dem politicians on the other han...

Re: Marxism, Socialism, Communism, Who's on First

You should probably ask Bernie Sanders and AOC who proudly claim the label of Socialist what they see as the difference between Socialism and Marxism/Communism. You would hope that what they call "Democratic Socialism" eschews the totalitarianism and murder associated with Communism but I ...

Now that people are being killed the folks at CNN and MSNBC must be finally realizing they are going to have to cover it. They are probably huddling together right now trying to figure out the best way to blame it on Donald Trump.

Re: Someone who has personal experience of communism

3. Communism is incompatible with the notion of entrepreneurship, so I'm not sure how Vietnam could be considered communist. I've read that all major businesses are owned and controlled by the government but if you want to set up shop as a street vendor you are more free to do it than in the U.S.A....
