Re: IMPORTANT: PP FORUM GOING AWAY
I wouldn't mind kicking in a few dollars to keep the forums going, in it's current form. It would be a sad day, if all momentum from the past years that went into building this community went to waste. In my humble opinion a community like this needs to exists, where would everyone go to b*tch about...

Re: Slowly bleeding
I have said in other threads that if the U.S. bonds get under 1% I'm selling them due to horrible risk profile. Craig, could you please talk a bit more about the risk profile of long bonds when they go under 1%? Also, it's not entirely clear to me, why the long bonds would provide little insurance ...

Re: Why should PP continue going up?
And agreed that negative rates on long instruments like the 50-year Swiss bond can't be good. I just don't know where the breaking point is, and until we reach that point, bonds seem to still be capable of positive returns. Lang posted in the one-day Swiss currency crisis thread that his bonds are ...

Thanks indeed for the update, always interesting to see how the PP is doing in other parts of the world.Lang wrote: - The longest Swiss government bond (maturity in 2064) is up 30.6%.
Could you tell me what the coupon rate is on the Swiss LTT? (I'm guessing its a bond from 2014?)

Re: Jim Cramer doesn’t beat the market
Yeah, that was what I started out with but after about a year I changed it to VTI & VEU. I think at the time the overall expense ratio went down very slightly. But I really liked the idea of letting whichever was doing better, i.e. domestic or foreign stocks, just run without the frequent rebal...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio
I don't think equalizing your size, value and growth exposure with the GB concept is an increased bet on Prosperity. It's just distributing the Prosperity risk less concentrated into Mega Caps. It's all a matter of degree. Tyler's version is less precise than mine. Agreed. My view on this also. ...

I reviewed the portfolios Tyler highlighted and decided to go with two: the Ivy Portfolio and Swedroe's Minimize Fat Tails Portfolio. My personal implementation is one annual rebalance except for the XIV component which I use and then I only rebalance that with the SHY component and leave the rest alone. #1 Can I ask what your rules are for re-balancing the XIV component? (How much does XIV have to go up (or down?) before you tak...

I read somewhere Desert keeps the bonds until maturity? So he has essentially a 10-0 year laddered bond allocation. Is that right?

Thanks Frugal. I figured that would be the case. Didn't know you could do that in Google fiance though. Overall the portfolio is still up 5% YTD. Long bonds - 25% of their highs. Large cap stocks depending on what index are - 5% to - 10% of their highs. Think gold is down 5% down as well. I am not ...

I have gold deposits in Euros, I wish I would have them in Dollars. It's frustrating to see what has happened when the Dollar was raising the some weeks ago. The Euro price was exploding and in Dollars, not a significantly big price increase. Tricky with different currencies. I'm sure this is nave...

Re: PP for European Investors (once again)
European long-term bonds - you get a very low yield in a depreciating currency. Unheard of in decades of financial history. ECB QE is competetitive devaluation. Exporting deflation. Onshoring jobs. Driving up inflation, devaluing debts. That's all fine by me - but I wouldn't put my savings into EUR...
