If you follow the Doomer-Porn Zero Hedge, the drop in bonds may be in part due to the "leak" of an alleged plan by the Fed to initial "exit fees" on bonds to stampede bond holders in stocks... http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-06-16/fed-prepares-bond-fund-runs-looking-imposing-...

Re: Today is a good day for PP
To illustrate what a difference a year makes and how vacillating our fickle investment horizon perspective has been, anyone who started their PP on 6/23/2013 (the date of rickb's comments to stay the course when there was a lot of hand wringing going on), they would be up 5.44% (CAGR 6.87%)...

Newbie question about buying physical gold: When you place an order, is your order locked in at a certain price or is it the price of gold when they finally ship?
Thanks!

Re: Salon.com: welfare creates poverty
In terms of government redistribution efforts, I thought this was interesting from Mish's website the other day: Income Group: Market Income + SS/Medicare + Other Transfers - Fed Taxes = After Tax Income Bottom 20% $8,000 + $14,200 + $8,500 - $0 = $30,800 2nd Quintile: $30,700 + $10,300 +...

Rebalancing Band of Brothers
"Genuine diversification sometimes means owning what you hate...." If that is a true statement, the PP is indeed very diversified... Getting very close to rebalancing bands... I think until you have rebalanced into a declining asset, you have never really tested your commitment to the PP ...
Re: GTU
I am completely new to all this...
Looks like GTU closed at $42.93 today at a NAV of -7.81%...
modeljc, just curious: What was your buy limit order and how did you come to that number?
Thanks!

Re: GTU
It looks like GTU might be currently selling at a 7.5% discount (per some handy spreadsheet someone on this forum provided)... I have been thinking of selling all my GLD in my taxable account (which would be a large loss) and replacing it with GTU... Again, I am still no sure about the wash rule on...

Re: PP investors--stay the course
Thanks, DJ3... I guess one perspective would be that the PP has experienced an abnormally low performance in the past 12 months that has occurred less than 5% of the time over last 40+ yrs... One could surmise that while this low performance is certainly possible, it is unlikely to be the norm goi...

Re: PP investors--stay the course
According to Peak2Trough, for the last 12 months, the HBPP has return of -2.89%...and there have been several calls that the HBPP is doomed... However, over the past 42 yrs when there apparently was nothing inherently wrong with the HBPP, there have been 120 periods (which were undoubtedly less or g...

Re: Tax harvest GLD and buy GTU?
I saw in a previous thread that Fidelity requires you to hold PRPFX for 60 days to avoid paying some short term fee... Does anyone know what these fees are? I think foglifter uses PRPFX in his Fidelity account as a "cash" accumulator... Is there any way to cost-effectively/automatically ...

Re: Tax harvest GLD and buy GTU?
Thanks... I had another idea.... I also have a loss on my TLT holdings (imagine that!) so what if I sold all my GLD and TLT holdings and bought PRPFX... Hold the PRPFX for at least 31 days... Sell the PRPFX and just enough of my VTI to rebalance and buy GTU (or some physical), TLT and SHY to get bac...

Tax harvest GLD and buy GTU?
I am getting close to a 15/35 rebalancing band (stocks = 33%) in my taxable account. I also hold GLD in this account that is down 19.3% since purchase in 1/2012. My thought was when I rebalance, I could sell all my GLD and buy GTU (NAV -4.19% as of today) to take the loss on my GLD for this tax ye...

Using peak-to-trough's calculator, for the period 1972-current the number of times there were drawdowns >7%: HBPP w/ 35/15 rebalance: 15 60/40 Stocks/Bonds (annual rebalance): 52 100% Stocks: 116 100% Bonds: 70 100% Gold: 186 100% Cash: 0 Past performance is no guarantee of future results... CNN) -- All that glitters is not gold, they say. But all the gold in the world may come from astronomical events that send a lot of high-energy light out in space. Researchers have new evidence that gold comes from the collision of neutron stars. "We can account for all the gold in the universe...
